MyBB Cuonzo Martin article - life at UT was rough
Interesting story about Cuonzo Martin - life at Cal vs. life at UT. Sounds like his life was a living hell in Knoxville. Gotta think CJP experiences the same things ... Cuozno capitalized on a Sweet 16 and extended his career by making a move. It was best for his career and the well-being of his mental state and that of his family. Josh should look to do the same if he has the chance after this season...

Quote:Martin decided to hire a security firm. That's what you do when 40,000 people don't want you around.

Quote:He also sought to "blur" his house on Google Street View, per a source.

Quote:"So we had cameras around the house, outside the house. We had them in different places on the interior, basically the doors and windows of the interior, just for that."

Quote:According to a source close to Martin, a booster pulled Martin's access to a private plane on the day of a recruiting trip without explanation.

Quote:Football coach Butch Jones flew on a chartered jet to SEC meetings in Florida; Martin drove eight hours

Hopefully our fan base hasn't been as terrible as the UT fan base was to Martin.

As much as I hate UT, I was always impressed with Martin. I'm glad he's doing well at Cal.

Cuonzo got a raw deal at UT. He did a good job, but because he didn't do it the same way Pearl did it, the Knoxvillians ran him off.

How's that worked for you Vols?

He's an average coach. The Vols wanted someone above-average and forgot that their program is not above-average.

RE: Cuonzo Martin article - life at UT was rough
I mean, I don't even know where to start with the below statement.........

Larry Smith, a Tennessee booster and board member of the Big Orange Tipoff Club, said Knoxville welcomed Martin. But, he said, the petition and criticism arose because Martin failed to promote the team with the same flair that Pearl employed.

"Cuonzo stays in the office so much and never got into the community that much," Smith said. "They wouldn't do that to Bruce Pearl. Bruce Pearl was everywhere. It was just [Martin's] demeanor."

Smith said he thought Martin would help with recruiting and guide immature youths who "play streetball" and need to "clean up their acts."

There is one distinct difference between Cuonzo and Josh.

Because of this, the treatment the Dixies in Knoxville gave Cuonzo is quite different than what Josh will ever experience if you catch my drift...

Bernard King will tell you how Knoxville is and he was the best thing UT has ever seen.

Still didn't matter....

Hire a coach that can coach.

It's a bold comment but I'm going to allow it

Care to explain how we'll do differently this time than we did last time?

I'm not even trying to start an argument. "Fire the current coach" isn't a plan. Does anyone (that is vocal about wanting it) have a plan?

If so: Does your plan spend additional $$ from Athletic Dept? In essesnce taking money away from Big12 effort and Football effort.

Does your plan include a WILLING, proven Div 1 Basketball Coach?

We can find a very capable coach with current d1 HC experience for equal to or less than we're currently paying Pastner. There are literally dozens of viable candidates out there.

Firing CJP means we then pay his salary until he enters new coaching contract as well as paying for the new coach, how is this cheaper?? And I'm glad it's suddenly a highly sought after position because it wasn't 6-7 years ago, as evidenced by CJP's hiring process.
