No other rational way to explain it. I don't think Pastner could win anyway but ... I think there have been talks to ease the fan base on the basketball team so they could more easily focus on the football team. I don't think anybody could have predicted to what extreme the football team would rise or to what extreme the basketball team could fall but I do think there was an intentional shift that began on Normal.

If you guys don't believe there's "fans" wanting the team to lose, you're not paying attention to what's posted on this board.

There's plenty of that.
To deny it, is to have your cake and eat it too.
As a Pastner "hater", you are talking out of both sides of your mouth.
And, climate what it is, you figure to get little push back.

That's how bad it is.

What you are describing is apathy and us just simply expecting them to lose. Big difference between wanting a team to lose and just expecting it.. And I'll add this. The football team and the grizz have saved Pastners career IMO. The city is circling behind something else. Thus taking attention off of this dumpster fire Paz has created.

What will be the comments on this board when a regular season game against sisters of the poor U looks like that "fan fest"?

Expect such a comment from you since you cannot counter the facts.

Other than the "fact" minor league baseball attendance is low (shocking) in Memphis what other facts did you provide? Like i said, maybe one day Memphis will get rid of all the apathy and achieve the level of greatness horn lake has reached.

No major attendance drop in Sacramento. But nice try to divert the real subject. Memphians are apathetic in nature and follows the "in thing: until it's time has passed and then moves on. You have not provided anything except smartass remarks to counter that fact. Which for the most part is your M.O.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacramento_River_Cats#Attendance

Thanks for playing.

Additionally they have been really good for the past decade. People like winners. Put a good product out there and Memphians will support it. Doesnt make us any different than almost every other city out there. Clearly the exception is horn lake.

What is it that I hear.....CRICKETS? 03-rotfl

Sir, there are many aspects to the disliking of Pastner.

What you describe is merely one.
There are several posts on here that convey the sentiment that if you don't pull for the Tigers to lose this year, then you don't have the long term welfare of the program at heart.
I'm not going to call them up. There's probably at least a couple score or more. How could you possibly have missed them?

But, that's just how sick this has all become.

"I just think this year we're gonna surprise a lot of people because people are not expecting us to do the best," sophomore guard Markel Crawford said. "A couple people (transferred). Not the biggest team. Not the biggest names. But I just think when people see us play, they're gonna see how hard we go for that name across our jersey. It's going to be a big year for us."

You know who you are and so do the players.

Markel needs to worry about what he's doing and not about the fans. I was a fan 30 years before he was born and will be long after he transfers or graduates. Nichols pretty much made the same comments last year as did Nick King. It's simple. Most fans are tired of Josh Pastner. And THAT is why only 400 or so showed up yesterday. Not because of football, not because it wasn't publicized and not because of no rapper

Get over yourself. Markel didn't say anything wrong but just commented that people aren't expecting much from them and they could be in for a surprise. He's not 'worried' and he's saying they will play hard FOR Memphis. Just because we all don't like and are frustrated what the coach has been doing the past few years doesn't mean that we dump on the players that stayed and are probably going to give their all no matter what. I've been a season ticket holder for many years as well

I believe the Lawson's are the real deal and will have a big year this year as well as Nick Marshall, Shaq and Markel along with Burrell and Mitchell and Jeremiah Martin.....But if Josh fails, then look to Damon to be head coach or go looking at say Jerod Haase to come coach this team....The World Is Ours Memphis....Remember we are a FB first school now and we have to stay that way as we work to gain Big 12 Acceptance which will be coming.....Again The World Is Ours Memphis.....

What did you expect Crawford to say? "Yeah, coach is pretty much a bum who will likely get fired at some point this season. I understand why interest in our program is dwindling. If I had to guess, we will win 15-20 games and miss the tournament. Nothing to see here."

I have no problem with what he said, but it means nothing. Just words.

Terrible... As a former alumni, this is just sad... Memphis is full of fair weather fans... It's always been that way... I am not surprised a bit.

Memphis is the most apathetic city in the entire US. Look at the Red Birds. When Autozone was new and the team playing well they challenged Sacramento for the attendance title of minor league baseball. After the newness wore off and it was no longer the "in thing" the city ended up having to buy the stadium and the Cardinal had to buy the team to keep it afloat.

Maybe one day memphis can be as cool as horn lake.

Expect such a comment from you since you cannot counter the facts.

Sir, if you think those are the facts, then quite plainly you are a simpleton who is trying to look at the city harshly. The "newness" wearing off didn't dampen enthusiasm for the Redbirds, the Grizzlies did. The Redbirds success was entirely when they were the only PRO sport in Memphis. Enter the Grizzlies and the Cal years. Not to mention baseball as a whole is a declining product, that needs considerable investment to maintain fan support. The non profit could not do that. Fans are a small percentage of any sports enterprise. The market worked in a rational way that had nothing to do with Memphis being apathetic.
