One other obvious observation, Chicago can't move forward with defensive liabilities in left and right field.
Isn't Schrawber a catcher by trait?

Absolutely. I wish it had been a more competitive series, but in terms of disappointing Cubs teams, this doesn't rank. Feels similar to the '09 Blackhawks losing to Detroit.
Maddon said, "That was a pretty impressive four games they played against us. They didn't give us, they did not let us up for air."
Arrieta, "Ran into an extremely hot team that just outplayed us."
This was a tremendously fun season for Chicago. I hope it is a sign of things to come. One other obvious observation, Chicago can't move forward with defensive liabilities in left and right field.
Good luck to the Mets. Y'all let me know who wins. I'm not sure I can watch.
A guy I know who is a Cubs fan said to me that beating the rival Cardinals in the playoffs was like a mini-World Series of sorts, and that it was somewhat unfair to make the Cubs have to play more baseball after that, lol. I understand that perspective a bit. You guys accomplished a lot this year and have nothing to feel bad about.

He's a good athlete, but he doesn't really have a position. His bat plays now, but from the scouting reports, he needs more time to hone his catching skills. Perhaps he starts the year at AAA next year to catch every day. As unlikely as that seems, I don't know how you prepare him to be an everyday catcher.
I think Soler or Schwarber will be involved in a trade this winter. It seems impossible that Schwarber gets traded, but I'm not sure where you play him next year.

Moving him to an AL team seems like the thing to do.

Scwharber for Sonny Gray...haha. I don't want to play internet GM, but I think trading one of the young bats for pitching is more likely than signing Price or another TOR free agent.

Got to find somewhere for him to play. I'd think fans would revolt if they traded him. Looks like he played in 43 games and 21 of those he caught. Wonder why they switched him out.

Where did you find that number? I don't think he had one than one or two starts at catcher for Chicago this year.

Montero is a terrific defensive catcher. Easy to see why he was the guy behind the plate for this team.

Looks like he started 15, but played C in at least a portion of 21
Baseball reference is a great site for any player/team stats

Looks like his fielding % is 2% higher so yes that's certainly legit. However, in the NL where you already lose a bat to a P i'd think his value(Schwarber as a C) hitting as well as he does would be even higher.

Pretty sure the Cubs had plenty of bats. Who were they missing out on starting by keeping Montero behind the plate?

Well because they put Schwarber in the OF they technically were not missing his bat. Given how much of a liability he is out there, and he seems to be a serviceable catcher, seems he'd be better suited and have more value there going forward. That was my point.

RE: OT: MLB Playoff Predictions
Hoops, you're probably correct. Schwarber will get a chance to start behind the plate at some point. Baseball has changed from the way I was taught to play. I'd rather have a great defensive catcher, with offensive upside than a guy learning as he goes defensively, but plays b/c of his bat.
“The fact that he wants to catch is a really big deal,” Hoyer said of Schwarber. A lot of guys catch through the minor leagues and they don’t love it ... He wants to do it. We believe in him.”

RE: OT: MLB Playoff Predictions
Yeah, i agree the game has changed for sure. For positions that tend to be "offensively challenged" C, 2B, SS, teams tend to be a bit more lenient with Defensive laps as long as the offensive production is there.

Of all the no-good-dirty-rotten things you've ever said to me, as a middle infielder, this one hurts the most.

I think with such a young team you needed a veteran guy like Montero behind the plate. I guess I can see the logic behind moving Schwarber at some point in the future as the team develops quickly into a veteran squad.

Ha! Guess what positions i've played my entire life(and still play in softball) SS and 2B, I get it. I'm technically making fun of myself there too i guess :)

Agree! I think veteran leadership is the logic for keeping both Miggy and Ross. Ross is signed for another season and Miggy two. If plan works, Schwarber is ready to be everyday backstop then.
