Of unemployed, or coaches that you think might move on?
It is easy to speculate that a coach like Justin Fuerte will be a target of a P5 school
But what about a coach like Gary Patterson? Would he be tempted by Southern Cal?
I think the list of unemployed coaches who would be likely candidates is pretty short. After Greg Schiano and Butch Davis, there's not much. And at 63, with NCAA issues at two previous stops, Davis is iffy.
Thinking about this, I'd say there are really two lists. First, coaches who would consider leaving only for a gig like Southern Cal, and second guys who would consider any other P5 opening. There aren't many head coaches who wouldn't at least listen to Southern Cal.
That second list would be pretty long, especially if you include coordinators.
Off the top of my head, I see head coaches:
Matt Ruhle, Temple
Justin Fuente, Memphis
Tom Herman, Houston
PJ Fleck, Western Michigan
Matt Campbell, Toledo
Dino Babers, Bowling Green
Bryan Hairsin, Boise State
Jeff Brohm, Western Kentucky
Doc Holliday, Marshall
Chad Morris, SMU (maybe too soon)
and longshots
Rich Rodriguez, Arizona
Sonny Dykes, Cal
Dan Mullen, Mississippi State
Coordinators might include
Kirby Smart, Alabama (OC)
Brent Venables, Clemson
Luke Fickell, Ohio State
Cam Cameron, LSU
Doug Meacham, TCU (OC)
Lincoln Riley, Oklahoma (OC)
Gene Chizik, UNC
Mike Norvell, Arizona State (OC)
Bud Foster, Virginia Tech (only to succeed Beamer)
A lot may yet depend on which other jobs come open as the season progresses. There will be a lot of back channel communication with agents, since it's not likely many active coaches are going to talk directly while they are still coaching in the regular season.
