Vanilla playcalling
Why? Trying to keep it simple before the ole miss game?

A win is a win is a win. It got the job done. We were down our best receiver most of the game. We didn't show to much. We've got two weeks to prepare. The black bears have enough film on us to scheme. I still like our chances.

I'm not mad just curious to know the real motive behind our conservative play calling. I totally trust Fuente

It was no secret our game plan was to pound it on the ground and manage the clock. Although we started slow once we got the lead there was no reason to go away from it.

We mixed it up enough to keep them guessing and it paid off with a good conference road win to remain undefeated.

Seems like they were just taking what the defense was giving them. That was a really good defense

It was a defensive scheme that we hadn't seen before this season. Coach probably knew that they weren't going to put up a lot of points unless we gave them good field position on turnovers so he managed the game by using field position and a more methodical approach on offense. He did the same thing against Ole Miss last year.

This!

Don't over looked the pressure and sacks Paxton experienced for the first time this season. I love it that we can throw for over 300 yards and open the 2nd half with an on-side kick and fans call it vanilla. Are we spoiled already?

RE: Vanilla playcalling
Dorceus had just burned the USF defense one or two series prior, so it wasnt like those plays were doomed to be 3 and out. Also, some of those plays seemed to have an experimentation feel to them, as if to get the line and backs a feel for getting the running game going without relying on passing or trick plays (other than misdirections.)

It didnt have the same feel as playing not to lose. There seemed to be a purpose in those plays.

Lynch just didn't have time to go down field. I would have like to see us take a shot up 14 with 5 minutes left though. That was a big time trap game and I'm glad it's over.

They are going to have to figure some way to give PL some protection against ole miss. Their rush will be better than USF. We have got to protect becauce ole miss will try to knock him out. Literally.

Are you claiming M Frazier is our best receiver?
I like Frazier. He is a solid wideout. But imho, he is not our best receiver.

imho, craft is our best playmaking receiver. However, is more of a slot rb than a slot receiver. But, we do throw to him. (He caught a TD last night)

Otherwise, the group is pretty solid with most of them being pretty even in talent. I like how T Jones has improved. That little guy (A Miller?) is fun to watch.
Go Tigers!

RE: Vanilla playcalling
We did play conservatively. We ran it several times on third and long, to prevent a possible interception. They have a decent D, better than we have faced. This was a trap game for us, and they had a bye week, so we were flat in the first quarter, then pretty much dominated the rest of the way.

But we could afford to play that way. Our punting game kept them in a hole, and, as someone else pointed out, we still had over 300 yards passing. I was okay with the game plan.

Both punters were making it hard on the other team. Just not a lot of opportunities in the game for sheet drives.
