I get it. Fans of the Walking dead are watching and the pace of the new show is way different than the original. I get that it is a completely different show and the focus is on the people but that doesn't change the fact that people like action. There has been very little action in this show and most of the characters are not very likable. I will say that I enjoyed the Old Man and his daughter's plot line this week. The junkie and the con-man in the cell was another good plot line but those two (junkie and old man) have been my favorite characters from the beginning. The show is an interesting look at how people behave during the fall but it will be hard pressed to live up to the expectations set by the Walking Dead.

The show was a bait and switch. A lot of fans seemed to think that Fear the Walking Dead was going to show how the epidemic started. They thought that the show was going to show what caused the virus, etc. It's apparent now that this was not the case. It is same as the Walking dead, just set much earlier. It's ridiculous that the last episode skipped ahead 9 days (9 days that would have been interesting transition scenes) I think the producer has said he has no intention of showing what caused the virus. This is just the Walking Dead set in a big city with less interesting characters.

Yeah, I'm done watching FTWD. I think it was a Memphis fan on the AAC board that said it perfectly: "It feels like I'm watching a movie on Lifetime, there just happen to be zombies in it."

The good news is, TWD starts back Sunday, doesn't it? With that and American Horror Story starting back soon, I'll no longer need FTWD.

Think about the fence line at the prison. They had people that did nothing but clear walkers off the wall and that was in rural Georgia. That neighborhood fense would constantly be under zombie attack.

Los Angeles proper has a population of 13 million people. There is an ocean to the southwest. There literally would be no where to hide.

It seems if you can't make it in rural Georgia, there is no chance in a metropolitan area. Going to DC always seemed like a bad idea.

They have the army going out on patrols killing any walker within sight. Clearly they evacuated most of the city as well. Then you have the arena that is now full of walkers. How many other places like that are completely overrun where the army put them in there and then locked them in.

But there are roughly 8000 peak old per square mile in Los Angeles. You simply can't patrol that. There are just so many people which means so many zombies.

They said in interviews during production they weren't going to get into specifics of what caused the virus -that they were more interested in how people react to it.

So people who thought it was a bait and switch need to quit spending so much time "having lives" and more time compulsively reading press coverage of TV shows.

Am I the only one that has enjoyed Fear The Walking Dead more than The Walking Dead? So far it's been really interesting just to see how everything went down during the time Rick was in his coma.

RE: OT: The Walking Dead
I don't have any problems with the show other than a few of the people. I don't like it better than the Walking Dead but I think it's showing about what would happen...at first. Everyone would want to believe our government is there to protect us so I think at first you would have this slow pace with people trying to get by each day as normal as can be. But soon it will need to pick up because no more than a few weeks and all hell would break loose...and government breaking down. Just as we are starting to see now, with the army, pulling out. I like the old man and his daughter but I think they are going too far too fast with the torture. Even with the old guys background.

I do wish the daughter and son (not the junkie) would go ahead and get bitten and them add some new more interesting people into the family. Neither seems real to the setting.

I probably would like FWD better if I had as much time invested. I enjoy slower paced shows and TWD drives me crazy some times. But I've invested in the show and even though I don't think it is a quality show, I enjoy watching it. The lack of communication and stupid characters in FWD that I can overlook in walking dead may kill FWD for me.

I agree 100%. Great show. I'm glad its not the same as the original show even though I love both.

RE: OT: The Walking Dead
I think they had an interesting concept for the show, and I think we've seen the result of a conscious decision to focus on the society aspects rather than the Infected (I like they haven't called them walkers in this show). I think there was a lot of potential here, but I think they missed in some character development. Travis seems flat and uninteresting. There no emotional investment into the daughter Alicia. I think they failed to get the audience to buy in or care for the core characters, so there's no hook. Maybe it's because a large volume of comic material was already available for writers for the original TV series that they already had a "character bible" to pull from and build those personalities and stories, whereas no such background existed for Fear and they haven't built characters as efficiently. I think that's the big difference.

The Walking Dead has become can't miss, can't TIVO entertainment. I've watched every Fear show other than the premier on demand rather than as aired live, so I don't feel the same passion for the show or the character I have for the original. But on its own, I don't object to Fear... It's a different show - but it's failed to get me to care for the characters though 5.5 hours like the original did.

All shows see their ratings slip after the series premiere and even after season premieres (well except Empire last season). I wouldn't take any indication from that as it's still AMC's #2 show.

1. TWD
2. FTWD
3. BCS
4. HOW

Into The Badlands will fall somewhere in there as half of it's season will have TWD as a lead-in (FINALLY AMC using TWD as a lead-in!).

I think it is showing how society and government reacted, then broke and ran, both of which were in the past when Rick awoke.

They really need a scene where someone recognizable from twd, not a main character, is just in the background or has a brief conversation about getting out of town and heading east.

That would be great. We talked about that.

The Governor about to head back east after vacation.
Dale stuck on the freeway in his RV.
Tyreese struggling to get back to his sister.

I'm sure you guys can come up with much better....

The creation of a back story for the Governor would be awesome.

Hah that was me. Or he said it too over there. I told my wife it felt like a lifetime movie. I'll give it the rest of the season but unless it gets significantly better I'm bored.

Stunt casting is a sure sign a show is in trouble and can't stand on its own.

RE: OT: The Walking Dead
Seems like with the exception of a few episodes and cliffhanger season endings, TWD moves awful slow, too. I mean it seems like literally 3-4 episodes go by with no plot movement. I'm hoping this leads somewhere fun with FTWD as well. I imagine the Cobalt command will be pretty good TV.

All I know for sure is I about gave up on the walking dead while they were on the farm looking for Carol's kid first half of that season. Second half of that season was amazing and the episode with the barn doors open at the end of the first. But they throw a lot of fluff in because they can. They know people don't want to miss a thing.

I should probably just DVR the whole season and then watch it commercial free in larger chunks. Hard not to want to see each episode as it's released, though.

It's different if it's a spin-off. In a spin-off it's acceptable to have some continuity through appearances, IMO. But I agree having some big name or blast from the past show up in a run of the mill sitcom or whatever is probably a last dive for ratings before the end.

This. I expected to see how society would break down in a scenario like this. I really enjoy it so far. The zombie killing will come let's enjoy surviving the first stages.
