If you are lucky enough to win one of these beauties, let me make one suggestion if I may...DON'T WEAR IT! The Heroes & corn unis look super goofy on most everyone. They're just not made to be worn without pads.

I agree about the corn ones but the Hero jerseys look nice IMO.

Only 4 jerseys are currently above the reserve price.

Its an odd auctioning system though as I put my bid in at the reserve price ($250) but the active bid is at $220...what if no one else bids on this?

If no one else bids on this - you will win it at $220

The reserve price is not met at $220. It says they don't have to "sell" it to me if the reserve price is not met.

Sorry - I was reading too quick - it will bump to $250 and sell to you at the reserve price.

HuskieJohn,

Just to confirm, you put in a bid that was higher than the current bid and the bid amount increased by the increment amount?

This auction certainly lacks information as it says this is an open auction. Yet it seems to use proxy bidding, but doesn't mention this anywhere.

According to the website, if you are under the reserve and are the highest bidder, they will call you and see if you want to bid the reserve amount.

Q: What is a proxy bid?
A: Each time you place a bid by entering your maximum bid amount (which is the most you're willing to pay for an item), you will be using our proxy bidding system. The system will then bid automatically, on your behalf, and at the lowest possible bid increments, until your maximum bid amount is reached.

I originally bid $210 when the site first opened.
This opening bid was showing at $200. (That is what I was expecting to happen)

However I then saw that there was a reserve price. I knew my max bid was not going to meet the reserve.

Today I just put in a bid for $250 to have it at least meet the reserve price.
Now the current bid is showing at $220 with the next bid at $240.

So do I have to hope that someone bids $240 so that the reserve price is met or will they just know that I am willing to pay the reserve price?

For those that have purchased jerseys in past auctions, how well do these jerseys look and fit if you wear them? Are they true to size? I read that prior post that they look bad and shouldn't be worn and it has me a little hesitant to bid on one.

They are very tight fitting everywhere but the shoulders.

Interesting. I got a corn jersey for a $205 bid.

I wear a 43R jacket and can barely get the jersey on. It now hangs on the wall.

The reserve price seems to be new this year.

RE: NIU to wear 1965 throwback jersey vs UNLV
Response regarding the auction

"Regarding these jerseys... They are all indeed Open-bidding auctions, with a reserve in place that is slightly higher than the starting bid price. There is a 3 minute "popcorn bidding" extension in place, so if a bid is placed during the last 3 minutes of an Open or Reserve Price Auction, the auction will be automatically extended for an additional 3 minutes from the time of the latest bid. The auction will close once all bidding activity has stopped for a period of 3 minutes.

Proxy bidding is also in place, where, in the case of a competing bidder, the system will bid automatically on your behalf, and at the lowest possible bid increments, until your maximum bid amount is reached."

Can someone better versed in auctions explain why you would set the starting price lower than the reserve?

its a hold over from ebay/brick and mortar auction houses. the brick and mortar live auctions will start low to encourage people to bid and get into bidding wars, driving the price higher than its actual value.

it also allows NIU to avoid setting a "true value" on the item. Golloday's jerseys are going to be worth more in two years than Paris Logan's jersey, but because its a student athlete you can't tier one jersey high than others.

it also helps them avoid having to part with a jersey for less than they are willing to.

Any word on if NIU will wear a decades jersey for each home game? Would love to see those 1990s black tops return.
