I don't think its your attendance that bothers anyone. If that were the case then I'm sure EMU would have already been kicked from the conference. What's annoying are the excuses. Whats annoying to your conference mates is the comments that insinuate they are part of your attendance problems. Obviously moving to the MWC wouldn't help your attendance, that was proven by your week 1 attendance.

Just face it man, your attendance is pathetic for as much as you guys have been winning the last few years. Also, no one would really care if you weren't always out running your mouth about how NIU was a contender for a spot in the Big 12. Or if you would stop trying to claim the Chicago market. Start actually drawing the DeKalb market first.

At least 15,000 fans is an improvement from your average of 13k last year.

The more annoying part is the belief that if they were in the American their attendance would suddenly be 25-30k

Why does that annoy you?
A lot of things annoy him. See spin room.

Oh god no! I can't go back there, ill come out w/ -33 rep points. I'll look like Ben44 or Jons99 two of theNealT's past personas.

I know that this will make you MAC fans happy BUT very few want to pay money to see MAC teams in person. It is that simple. It is still seen as small time football and despite how many strides Toledo, NIU or other MAC teams make trying to change that, it will always remain.

Yes. Sadly, this includes their own teams.

Cant argue attendence was ****

Yep. Our home attendance is pathetic. No excuses.

We just have to deal with poor attendance while the rest of the MAC has to deal with our football team. Good luck.

Did I say it didn't? This is why some NIU fans think moving from the MAC would probably increase attendance. Will it double probably not but will probably go up a few thousand(3-5) depending on the conference and teams in the conference.

Telling ESPN to take their TV scheduling of MAC games and shove it would help attendance greatly. can't expect fans to buy season tickets when 2 of the 5 or 6 hoome games are midweek and they aren't able to attend.

I think corps have given up buying most of the tickets on a sinking ship so they now have to reflect the actual attendance.

Yeah EMU is in a HORRIBLE spot being 7 miles away from U of Michigan... not sure it gets much worse than that. I mean all you can really do at that point is try your hardest to NEVER schedule a game when they play and try to tie yourself into a package deal of some sort with their tickets. And lower the prices drastically.

yes, that's the solution. take the MAC off of TV. I remember back when I was an undergrad me and my friends would stand in line for hours on those cold November Saturdays trying to get into another sold out MAC game. We had a good thing going until national exposure ruined it for everyone.

Can you say it has helped much for attendance? Has attendance really risen since those days? I think it helped get NIU to the Orange Bowl but that is about it.

Nope. Still have the Pepsi contract. Pepsi buys a bunch of tickets every other year. This is the off year.

RE: 2015 MAC Avg Home Attendance (through wk1)
You put every game on TV, or at least ESPN3, AND put 2-3 out of 5-6 home games on a weeknight, that is going to affect attendance, no question about it. The only question is, is the money and "exposure" worth it? Where are the numbers that indicate it's worth it? Maybe it is but I haven't seen anything to indicate that.

Everyone does realize the MAC football contract with ESPN was extended through the 2026-2027 season, right? NOTHING is going to change for the next 11+ years.

I don't know about the other MAC coaches, but Kill, Doeren and Carey all have said the ESPN deal was a positive thing for NIU football.

yes, I can say it has risen for Ohio, the numbers bear it out.

Huskie Stadium holds 23,595, last season you played 5 home games with an average attendance of 13,563. That means 50,162 tickets went unsold, that is the value of your "opportunity". Now that we have a hard number for reference let me ask two questions-

1. If your goal is to get more people watching NIU play football which will give you the bigger audience, a full stadium or a half full stadium + broadcast on ESPN?
2. If your goal is more revenue then which will produce more- selling 50K additional tickets or getting a share of the TV contract ($833,333/yr)?

weeknight MACtion games are not ideal but the good outweighs the bad.

And how many of those games were on weekdays due to ESPN coverage? I don't know about Athens but people up here work for a living and/or have families. Not to mention the time to drive to DeKalb from home and/or work. In some/many cases it isn't even possible to get to a game by the time it starts.
