Scarbinsky: A little late for the UA BoT to pretend to believe in democracy

Quote:It would be nice of Watts to grow a backbone and tell the BOT there will be no more votes because the students, faculty, alumni and greater Birmingham community have spoken loudly and consistently for months. They want UAB football back, and they're working like mad to make it happen.

Excellent article. Glad to see us going on the media offensive again with the BOT.

It's so blatant, but they've been allowed to run rough-shot over so many people for so long that there is literally no one with power who will stand against them.

Someone pointed it out a week or two ago: for decades, "Roll Tide" has been their get out of jail free card. As soon as bammer kicks off, all sins are forgotten. And not long ago that was true; they haven't adapted their evil to the second-generation web.

There is also the probability that "the people with power" are in league with the leadership of the state and the system BOT. It's not that they won't stand against the BOT as much as it is likely they agree with them particularly about B'ham and anything in it.

Sometimes it seems there is a "limited allotment culture" in Alabama that says that if one is to improve, another part must be diminished. Good education in south Alabama can only be had by diminishing education in north Alabama. Blazer football can only succeed at the expense of Crimson Tide football. A parent can only love one child without sacrificing the love for the others. Is this the result of being a poor state with (self imposed) limited resources for improvement? This week we will see if the General Fund Budget can only be sustained at the expense of the SETF.
