Put the questionable play calling, stupid penalties, etc aside and it all boils down to our quarterbacks inability to scramble. He was unable to capitalize on several opportunities to break loose which if he had done so the outcome of that game would be different. I dont see how that can be corrected thus it will be a thorn in our side the entire season.
Have not seen this much excitement and electricity in our crowd since the TCU game some years back. Something has got to be done about the traffic.

Maybe he was too worried about the seating chart in Ruston to focus.

Being able to at least stay competitive with a real football team is very encouraging, of course a win is already better but after the carnage of the EJ debacle, small steps are a positive.

After watching that game yesteray, it was evident to me that Southern Miss is much improved. The atmosphere was great at the rock.

Im sure USM did not give MSU 10k tickets... and... If USM fans sold 5K of their tickets to MSU fans?...then you have a giant problem in Hattiesburg. I am sure this is bogus.

I'm sorry EE, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you on your opinion of the decisions of our QB. You sound like the same crazies who were calling for Bower's job and then going back on it and saying we should have never fired Bower after Johnson imploded the team (I've met a few). Yes we were shaky at times, but our only glaring downfall was that we gave up too many explosive plays and could not finish in the red zone against the best red zone defense from a year ago. We got tired in the third quarter and Nick didn't have as much time as he was used to in the first half. He is a cautious quarterback who takes his time with his decisions. Matthews didn't get the starting nod because Nick is the proven leader in the team at the time. This does not "boil down" to his play and decisions. We're still grinding, it's early in the season. The problems last night were the same problems we had last year. The difference? We were better at keeping our composure and lessening the amount of mistakes compared to last year. Take the progress and keep moving forward.
"Fans" like you and some of the others on Eaglepost are ruining a good thing. Stop being so negative and giving backhand compliments all of the time- just enjoy the game and the thrill of rising back up to the top. Yes we lost. Yes there are no moral victories, but you'd have to be blind to not see the momentous progress that we have made in a single off season. The main difference I saw last night? Our team has grit. They have a chip on their shoulder. They are hungry and scrappy and, dare I say, a nasty bunch. They are the epitome of The history of The University of Southern Mississippi. We're not going to be a powerhouse in one season following what happened the prior three years. But we are going to make people "choose Southern Miss every time."
Maybe I'm preaching to the wrong person and just am venting about what others have said that is not you, EE, but nevertheless Don't ruin progress and a step in the right direction.

Addressing points 1 and the PS- noted. I am new to the message boards and the District page on Rivals doesn't have much discussion (not to mention the obnoxious State trolls) so I assumed I could attempt to have intelligent, passionate conversations on Eaglepost. I stand corrected.
Point 2. I definitely see us going 6-6 or 7-5 after last night.
Addressing point 3. The State fans were awfully quiet without their cowbells. I loved every minute of that. I would guess it was at least a 2-1 Southern to State ratio. Some southern fans were buying their state friends tickets and even some state fans worked their way into purchasing season tickets. Nothing really to stop that.
On the positive, I think we're in for a great year. My hope is a NOLA Bowl for the pure morale side of things. It is an easy bowl for fans to travel to. And I believe we'd travel in droves to see it.

I have to agree about eagle post. They are the older guys who typically have nothing good to say. I will admit that like one or two do seem to have "inside" knowledge of what is going on. I have seen a few times points they've made come to fruition. But anyway USM is much improved our QB had more yardage than msu's QB. He is a heisman candidate. USM has good momentum they just need to keep working hard.

I just miss USM being in the east, but can't wait till they arrive back in the championship game. For CUSA to be a force again in the composite, it NEEDS USM to be good or better. And I personally, having been a closet USM fan for over 25 yrs., can't wait for you guys to get all the way back. Looks like you're well on your way.

My questionable play calling comment was directed at the coordinator who, for example, called four plays up the middle inside the five against those monster linemen. Mullins ran the plays that were called for him. I personally feel that his feet are a bit heavy when needing to scramble otherwise his performance was excellent. Its definitely a breath of fresh air to see our fans returning, some I had not seen in two years.

That's is no way true. I've been posting there for years and it's basically impossible to get banned because the admin runs the board as a hobby and really doesn't care what people do as long as you don't violate people's copyrights.

Quit going to Eagle Post a year ago. It is where posters go that have been banned everywhere else, or just post to hear themselves talk.
