The team that finished second in their east division last season was MTSU. Do you think MTSU was a better team than ECU or Temple? Since Memphis played both MTSU and Temple I can easily say that Temple was better. The teams which finished first and second in their west were La Tech and Rice? Memphis and Houston were both better teams. Their bottom feeders might have sucked less than our bottom feeders but they still sucked. The top of the AAC was much better.
IIRC, our top teams went 1-3 in bowl games and the one that won did so in overtime. Not exactly a show of strength.
But in any event, the bottom line is that we finished behind C-USA in the official CFP standings. They were better than us.
They also played much tougher bowl opponents and we also had UH beat Pitt
They went 4-1 in bowls, we went 2-3. They also beat us 3-1 head to head.
That's probably why they beat us in the G5 standings.
No use trying to polish a turd, it was what it was. Hopefully we can do better this season.
The opponents do make a bit of a difference in those bowl games. AAC bowl teams (besides Memphis) all played P5 teams in the bowls. Memphis had the top independent not in South Bend, In. CUSA had one bowl vs P5 and the rest vs G5.

I get that, but that's why I also mentioned that we went 1-3 vs C-USA as well. And FWIW, C-USA was 1-0 vs P5 in bowls, we were 1-3.
Bottom line is that we just lost to everyone last year. 2-3 in bowls, 4-6 vs G5, 4-22 vs P5.
We were bad all around, and that's why we finished 3rd out of the G5 conferences.
Hopefully, this year will be different.

So we should just beat up on G5s and then brag? Memphis played the second place team in CUSA east last year and beat them like a damned drum. Memphis was rated above Marshall in the Access Bowl rankings last season because of STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE.

RE: It's all up to us...
Regardless if the c-USA was playing better the perception, money, exposure, etc is on a different level. The c-USA is essentially the sunbelt and fcs merger now. Not that there is anything wrong with it either. There is no way with a straight face you can be excited about playing these teams in the new c-Usa. On the hoops side all the little exposure is gone. CBS decided not to air c-usa games they already paid for to turn around and buy American games.

It would be nice if we could beat up other G5, but last year we were 4-6.
Your turd polishing isn't going anywhere eh?

Remember, we played 3 more bowl games against P5 than them, but they won as many bowl games against P5 as us.

Still the superior conference? Blaahahahah. CUSA was better than the American last year. What makes you think you'll be better than us this year?...
Because we don't feel the insecure need to run to other conferences boards...?
"See, you guys look at us! We matter!!"
Yes, your fans do run to our board. Look, you can have your made up facts and imaginary statistics pulled from computers only you and your fans can see, but it won't change reality. This is not Tweenie Land--CUSA outperformed you last year, and they are on the way to doing again this year. Marshall was ranked higher than any of your programs in the REAL world. Now, I have no idea what the Tweenie Land made up statistics might proclaim because, unlike you, we can't see them, but the real world statistics are available at your leisure via a search engine.

One FACT you can't ignore is that no matter how much "better" of a conference you think you are, TV execs think we are collectively a better product. Pay day is the only day that matters in the end...

The real world stats say you didn't see a P5 team all season. The real world stats say that Memphis was above Marshall for the Access Bowl spot.

Memphis, UCF, or Cincy would have won CUSA last season. ECU might have as well. Again, MEMPHIS was above MARSHALL in the Access Bowl rankings for a reason.

And again, CUSA was above the AAC in the CFP rankings for a reason too. They had a better year than us.
