Man, I have heard the new F4 being compared to Batman and Robin! If true I think I will pass. I hated Batman and Robin so bad I swore off watching it after I saw it in theaters. I backtracked twice since then, once when the remastered dvd box set came out and I wanted to watch it again to see if it was as bad as I remembered--it was! The 2nd relapse was around the release of The Dark Knight Rises so I could be up on Bane's prior cinematic showing.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines / dvd
--just because...
PotC: On Stranger Tides / BR
--The best one since the original.
Fantastic Four & F4 Silver Surfer / BR
--I thought both were decent enough as movies and me not knowing much about their history. Personally, I thought Silver Surfer was better.

The first two FF4 were shamefully better than this new crappy version. And it's the story that's bad.
Straight Outa Compton/theater
--Pretty damn good movie. Glad they told a better/clearer tale of the Jerry Heller/Easy E / Ice Cube / Dr Dre fall out. Interesting details about the Dr. Dre/Suge Knight and Heller/Easy E relationship.
Arrow S2 / NF
--A pretty solid show IMO after binge watching S1 and 2. My only real beef with it is the whole "tell the truth" , "trust me", "do as I say not as I do" thing just wore on me over the course of binge watching.... I mean the same deals were in the Batman movies.... and maybe because of it being spread out and not in episodic from it never bothered me as much.
Iron Man/ BR
--Probably one of the best super hero movies of all time. Great mix of action, comedy, and plot.
Sleepy Hollow / dvd
--I love this film
Star Wars III: RotJ / BR SE
--Such great characters and cool aerial battles but I have to admit, the Ewoks did cheapen it a little LOL.
Man on Fire/ dvd
--Denzel in one of his bad ass modes...not quite sure I like how it ended but I get the whole redeeming ones self angle.
Inside Man/ dvd
--Cool bank robber story. Lots of strong characters played by good actors in it.

I actually didn't think MI: Rogue Nation was as good as everyone made it out to be. It was a fine summer movie, but claiming that it had a reasonable plot and in depth characters I felt was over the top.
I saw Ant-Man and felt that while good that Scott Lang is TBH a useless inclusion. As I'm not a Hank Pym fan, I'm glad that they had him basically retired, but it that was the story then they could have simply put Hope Van Dyne in the suit.
There are just some stories that are just impossible to tell on the big screen and I think FF falls into that category. They as a group have always felt more Johnny Quest like with their adventures and conflicts than say the Avengers or X-Men.

To be fair they're using Hope van Dyne as the Wasp, which is her actual character. AFAIK she isn't going to be in Captain America: Civil War, but probably in the Infinity War movies

No, I get that. I just happen to like the MCU so much that I want them to get past the 'lack of diversity/no women' criticism they are facing. TBH, I think many of those making such laments lack a true appreciation for the Marvel brand. They're under the impression that the only Captain Marvel is Carol Danvers or that somehow the comic line lacks diversity. In truth, Marvel's most popular and diverse characters all happen to be mutants. The complainers should take they're issues to FOX. While those looking for a great female superhero movie are too scarred to timid to go to DC and WB because they know a Wonder Woman movie made by them would be crap.

Yeah well people are always ready to get on any company the second they don't see the kind of results they want. But the fact is, subtracting the popular characters that Marvel sold the rights to, the ones that were left on which to build a successful cinematic franchise were white males. I mean does anyone really think they were going to put Black Panther in Phase 1? This isn't a race thing, but a logic thing. Captain/Ms. Marvel and Black Panther are probably the most well known of the non-white male characters that Marvel owns the film rights to, so it's not like they had a huge stable of choices. They used Gamora in GotG, and I'd say she's a decently prominent character and was pretty well portrayed. Cynics will say she played the fawning woman, but I'd say Peter Quill was equally portrayed as the fawning man, so I'm not sure there's a difference. And her character was pretty badass anyway.
So after all this we'll be seeing Black Panther in Civil War, which makes sense to people who can think clearly. It's extremely difficult to introduce him in his own movie, so they used the whole Vibranium thing to bring him on board.

I think Blade is as popular as Black Panther. In July 2011, Marvel's CCO Joe Quesada revealed that the rights to the character had reverted to Marvel Studios. In May 2013, the The Hollywood Reporter reported that Marvel has a script for a Blade feature.
At San Diego Comic Con 2015, Snipes told IGN that both he and Marvel are now in talks about bringing Blade back in theaters.

Forgot about Blade. I liked all 3 of those movies. They had good action, humor and the horror aspect that other comic book movies don't generally have.

The bold is a great point that I don't think many people with actual knowledge of Marvel Comics appreciate. Mutants were the House of Ideas answer to diversity in comics. I would say that in terms of black characters that Storm and Bishop easily are more well known and liked over Black Panther and Blade. For most of the 90's, Carol Danvers was in a coma after Rogue had siphoned off her powers. BUt think the success Marvel generated with a little known brand like GotG has people believing that the studio can do no wrong and is the best chance to get a successful superheroine movie on the big screen.

The success of Blade (and the acting of Wesley Snipes) and it's importance to the creation of the MCU has always been too downplayed IMO. The first one's only fault was the CGI overreach with Frost at the end. Damn near perfect movie.
Like the show Bored to Death on HBO, Blade was a little ahead of its time. If both of those had come out a couple years ago they'd haven achieved greater relevancy

Godzilla and King Kong fans, we're going to get a mash-up movie of the two mega monsters. This excites me!
Quote:In a twist, following Universal's decision to pass on Kong — with a budget north of $125 million — Warners is stepping in with a three-picture deal that kicks off with Kong; followed by a sequel to 2014's Godzilla, the biggest Warners hit originated by Legendary ($529 million worldwide);followed by a mashup that pits the ape against Godzilla.
On another note, it doesn't look at if the sequel to Pacific Rim will be hitting the theaters anytime soon:
Quote:Legendary wanted to produce a sequel to del Toro's Pacific Rim, which was made under the Warners deal and turned into one of those films that grosses a lot ($411 million worldwide) while being so costly that a follow-up isn't a sure thing. Sources say Legendary liked that the original performed exceptionally well in China, where the company is heavily invested, but for now the project — which had been ramping up to make a release date in August 2017 — has been halted indefinitely and will be pushed back (if it gets made at all).
