You've never learned from any of your mistakes have you?
EDIT: And I hope you realize our head coaches entire football philosophy is based off of 30 years of acquiring statistics... Maybe you should have said "Stats are for coaches, but the only stat that matters to ME is the final score." That would have been more accurate.

GS played like crap but Navy had an awful lot to do with it.
7.1 ypp
That's pretty damn productive offensive output.
3 turnovers and 7 penalties vs 0 for each.
That was the difference. Failure to complete drives was the other.
I'm tired of our fans lacking an understanding of what was going on in that game.
If that's what you want to believe there's nothing anybody can do to change that, but what I saw was Navy basically beat the crap out of GS. GS never come close to slowing McReynolds down, and GS accumulated some stats (that you mention above), shot themselves in the foot with turnovers and penalties (losing football), and Navy made them pay for every mistake (winning football).
Navy was ready to play and was ready to whip GS's ass. GS made mistakes (some were forced by good Navy play) and Navy ate them a new ******* as a result. I don't see how anybody who watched that game either drunk or sober can dispute that.
Stats are for losers, the only stat that matters is the final score.
What I heard (and saw highlights of) was a team that seemed to be worn down by Navy. I know that's not the opinion of most, but it seemed to me lack of I-A depth started wearing us out late in season. Hopefully a few recruiting classes will change that.

Good... when they base won/loss records and hiring/firing decisions off stats other than the final score I'll change my tune.
Edit: I am speaking purely from a fan's standpoint. Of course coaches use advanced stats to analyze trends, situations, and plan, no different than any other business. But, like every other business, all that matters in the end is the bottom line.

Ehh I have no idea on this game. We will find out quickly how good Upshaw is and whether it is going to be a long year with our o line. Either way WVU took a nose dive towards the end of the year hopefully that trend continues. I mean they had to battle with a horrible Iowa State team which I have no doubt we could beat. So if the team that ended the year for WVU shows up and we can be the team as good as the start of last year its even money. We wet the bed the first half playing Tech and came back so even if it looks bad early don't be surprised if it get close again.
We kinda went down hill as the season progressed also.
I will take going 3-1 towards the end as going down hill every year. Especially when we played two of the better Sun Belt teams on the schedule and Navy...Just because we did not win all three by 20+ does not mean we were going down hill. The competition for the last three games was much better than the worst five teams in the Sun Belt at the time stretch we had. If we played Idaho, Troy, NMSU and GaState last we would be overhyped right now instead of "going down hill"
You make some valid points. What I saw was a team that did not look the same as they did in the first half. Competition certainly played into that but imho, I think the starters were worn down.

RE: WVU / Georgia Southern game
Just this.
Navy qb: Reynolds, not McReynolds
Navy whipped us all over that field. Their offense was UNSTOPABLE.
We had some questionable plkay calls and our execution was no where near as sharp as Navy. We moved the ball some, but u can't chalk the turnovers up to bad luck.
We should have beaten GT and NcSt. ( Did actually beat GT, Theyvstole that win)
But Navy? Nah... Never want to schedule them again , we've been on the other end if that weapon enough for me to never want to be on the wrong side of it.
We were hit or miss, they were 99% hit, we had no answer.

We lost to Navy because our defensive game plan was bad. Coach Fritz said as much in an interview.

Exactly. We didn't beat ourselves with turnovers and penalties. We lost because We couldn't stop their quarterback and they absolutely pushed our **** in.
Nothing more frustrating than watching that guy get a first down practically every carry

...and no passing. I think I saw where more pass oriented teams did a lot better. I was just a bad game from top to bottom.

If I had to choose between the two it would be Ellison just based on experience but Upshaw has proven to be the better passer and is faster. Unfortunately from what I saw he is not hard to tackle at all and although the fastest on the team it is more straight line. I did not see a lot of nasty cuts or jukes. Hopefully he has put on some weight and the passing is even better this year.
There was a video with a real skinny player walking towards the camera. I thought that must be one of the new freshman DBs that will definitely get redshirted. Turns out it was Upshaw. I too had hoped he bulked up in the offseason, but he is skinny as ever.
The big question I have for Upshaw is if he has improved his leadership and confidence. Ellison has the "it" factor as he walked into the swamp as a freshman and was unfazed. Hopefully Upshaw is ready.
