The poor 79 Pirates, they're going to be brought to the forefront once again and have to re-live that year.

"The deeper the roots go the harder its going to be to break us mentally" ... That quote by Franklin right there... These kids are buying what Fleck is selling and its showing... and therefore I can't say what Fleck is selling isn't working.... #brocoach is getting it done...

Opens with seven - count 'em, seven - shots featuring Fleck.

Yet another promo for the head of the "family."

Sister Sledge did it better.

I seriously doubt he personally chose what shots to use.

You underestimate (or making excuse for) #brocoach - he chooses EVERYTHING for this program.

Not making any excuses, I don't care for him as a person either, I just know the reality of the amount of time it takes to put together something like this and there is no way he has that kind of free time on his hands.

You'd be surprised at the apparent free time.

I think I'll just enjoy the moment and not over analyze each and every action.

Upon seeing the video (prior to reading this board) my first thought was "great promotional video for PJ's next job".

Watch it again. it was not promoting WMU. Instead it was all about what a great culture PJ has created at WMU. PJ, PJ, PJ.

Maybe you missed the parts where they interviewed Zach Terrell, James Kristof, Jarvion Franklin, and several other members of the team?

Whether people like the guy or not, he's the face of our program right now and a big reason why kids are choosing WMU in the recruiting process. Nearly every one of these kids is quoted saying they chose WMU because of Fleck and the culture he's created.

Sure, it's a little self-promoting. But it should be. He's our head coach. That's kind of the point.

I did hear the player interview parts. Exact quotes:

Terrell "He (Fleck) is the most energetic coach around"
Kristof: "His (Fleck) energy is second to none..."
Terrell: "That is what makes him (Fleck) so special"
Franklin: "He (Fleck) brings it everyday..."
Franklin: His (Fleck) energy is very contagious..."
Kristof: "...Coach Fleck came and took over the program and changed the culture"

What culture the WMU football team has -- and how awesome it is. Call it sappy, call it 'too much', etc -- but it's WMU and PJ, the head of the FAMILY. :)

RE: F.A.M.I.L.Y.
Fleck is a master of self-promotion; both for the program and for himself as coach of the program. I have zero problem with that!!! Indeed, college football programs are built around the head coach. In order to recruit great players, the kids need to believe in and want to play for the head coach. Image is everything with the kids, and frankly many of the parents too. Fleck gets this.

Additionally, his row the boat, and FAMILY mantra does have some meaning, and allows the players, coaches, school administrators, students and fans to get behind something, and circle the wagons around the program.

Watching fleck is like watching a car dealership owner dress up like superman for a TV commercial, or an appliance store guy doing the same thing. It’s all part of it, and Fleck has the perfect personality.

And finally, yes, much of what Fleck does in putting himself in the limelight is to bolster his image to promote himself for future job offers. So what! The guy came on the scene out of nowhere as the youngest coach in D-1, and brought great enthusiasm, and a vision, but ended with a terrible record. He never wavered from the plan though, even though everyone on the outside tore him to pieces over the RTB thing; many on this board included. He asked his players to stick with him, and they did. He does seem to care about his players, and treats them with respect and enthusiasm. If he accomplishes great things at WMU, and desires the opportunity to coach at a bigger program, who can disparage that, and there is nothing wrong with getting his name out there.

Is Fleck a different kind of guy? Yes he is. And I am quite glad he is our different kind of guy.
