What was Bartow's biggest win?
Some of the big ones off the top of my head would be:

Georgia win in the Hawaii tournament
Missisippi State
Belmont win at home by around 20
Win at Fresno State
Stephen F Austin
Win at Mercer in ASUN finals

What do you think his biggest win was?

Agree biggest win has to be the win @ Mercer against them in conference tournament final. One of our guards was hurt, didn't play, too, if memory serves.

2009 win by 14 against Belmont in Nashville (even though it was in Lipscomb's gym) in conference semi's was big, and if you want the two biggest in a row, can add the next night finals against Jacksonville, 20 point win.

The Chattanooga win in the SoCon final his first year. It was never any better than that game.

RE: What was Bartow's biggest win?
Murry’s biggest win was probably the ASun semifinal victory over Belmont in Nashville in 2008. Belmont fans will probably still grumble that Kenyona Swader’s elbow swing after he was deliberately fouled by Belmont with 17 seconds left and the Bucs in the lead should have warranted a technical. But this purely reflexive reaction to a deliberate foul caused no harm, created no advantage for the Bucs, and didn’t warrant a whistle happy ref taking the game away from the players. This one was a little payback for Belmont’s humiliating beatdown of ETSU in Johnson City the previous year.

The followup win in the ASun finals was a foregone conclusion for the Bucs. Which then set up an NCAA first round match with overrated Duke. The Bucs win over Duke was the highlight of Murry’s career thus far, one of the great moments in Buc history, and pretty much cemented Murry’s position as coach for life and improved ETSU recruiting for years to come. The athletic Bucs matched up much better with the Dookies than Belmont would have, had they won against ETSU. But the Bucs would never have gotten a chance to beat Duke if they did not first knock off Belmont.

Aaaah, if only….

Murry’s ETSU career had a few other “if only” moments – the death of a promising 6’11” 240 Seth Coy who could have been a difference maker as a Junior and Senior; the illness and then injury of Ron GIplaye. But those things happen to all coaches.

Happens to all coaches, indeed, and we go on to praise only a few that can rise above. Great satire, if I may call it such, swva!

Was there at Cameron on Dec 14,1968 when the Bucs actually beat Duke 71-63. Skeeter Swift put on a clinic that evening. Duke folks were asking, "who is that guy?". Duke has never scheduled ETSU again in basketball.

Who cares??? The man is gone and good riddens to him. We have a new young coach and exciting future, why pick over a rotting corpse?

I realize it's the off season and topics are few but surely we can better than rehash the MuBar tenure.

How about how quickly do Buc fans expect coach Forbes to record a signature win and what is the criteria for a signature win?

We can reflect and move forward. I am thrilled he's gone and I also I have fond memories from his tenure. Not mutually exclusive.

Forbes is only 3 years younger (50) then Bartow.

I realize we all dislike Bartow, but I think it's okay to give him credit for winning a game or two.

He also brought us the Pigram, Tiggs, and Smith team that almost upset Pittsburgh as a 16 seed. I was at games that season, and thought it was pretty magical.

I'll never forget Courtney Pigram's dagger 3 to beat Chattanooga in maybe 05 or 06. That was the best atmosphere I got to experience as a student. We had about 7k there that night. The Bartow era had it's moments and there's no problem recalling them. The basketball program could have been in far worse shape than what Bartow left it in.

Yeah, Bartow was never a grade A coach, but he wasn't always horrible. He seemed to me like someone who just lost their passion for coaching after so many years. Burn-out - it happens to the best of us. When you are only so-so at your job in the first place, the burn-out can seem a lot worse than it is.

I thought Bartow's best coaching performance was the victory at Mississippi State. We played a very soft full court press the whole game to slow them down and they never figured it out. He and his staff were on top of their games that night.

No offseason in the Sander/Forbes era!

We got new recruits coming to campus soon. One more scholarship to give. And momentum out the wazoo.

ETSU GO BUCS GO!
