Here's the funeral procession for BB King on Beale Street. Man, I wish I could have been there.
Seeing this makes me grateful Memphis is in this conference. I'm looking forward to many more visits to Beale Street.

BB was a great man and great ambassador for the city and the blues. He can never be replaced but we can all hope to emulate his passion and kind heart.

Seeing BB King live was a real treat. Him and Lucille made some damn good music.

Did you ever get to see him play at Club Paradise years ago? He used to be a semi-regular there.

RE: OT: Memphis
I saw him a couple of years ago at the DPAC in Durham, NC. He had two bands warm up for him, one of which was Robert Cray. The two warm up acts played about two hours. When B.B. came out to play he said something about a curfew, played 3 songs and was done. I was kind of disappointed at the time but I do love fact that I got to see him before his passing. RIP BB

While different genres of music, I'm glad that I got to see BB King, Johnny Cash and Guns N' Roses live in concert.

I don't know whether it was the new or old one, but it was around July 5, 1971 on E. Georgia Avenue in an old bowling alley that had been converted into Club Paradise that I saw BB King.

One of the great things about growing up in Tennessee were/are all the music greats. In the fall of 1970 I went to a live taping of the Johnny Cash show which was on CBS at the Grand Ole Opry--the real one downtown, Ryman Auditorium in Nashville--where he had Derek and the Dominos and Carl Perkins on his show. I got to see those two plus Johnny Cash do a rendition of Blue Suede Shoes. After the taping was over Clapton and his band did a nice 20 minute set of Layla for the crowd, just for fun. And it was all free.

Agree 100% about growin up/living in TN. No 2 cities anywhere that are so close have produced more diverse music than Memphis/Nashville.

I spent last weekend in Nashville and we normally spend most of our free time at those joints between the Ryman and the Arena. Tons of people, music, and good times. This trip we spent much more time around Broadway/24th-18th/Centenial. That's Cooper-Young/Overton Sq/midtown on steroids. I hate to admit that I'm beginning to understand the Nashville allure a bit. We had a great time.

Nashville is home and Memphis is my home away from home. Both cities you can see a world renowned musician show up on a Tuesday night at some small venue and rock it out to 5 people. I've seen that happen so many times and we are talking HUGE names.

I always wanted to get one of those signs on I-40 calling it Music Hwy.

Check out Broad Ave these days, it's starting to look like it will soon join Cooper-Young/Overton Square as a trendy midtown hangout...lot of cool places over there.

Thanks Drew.

Slightly off topic, related to the Broad st Area, and of zero interest to the vast majority on this board, but has 3 Angels changed hands? My last trip there was pretty disappoining and I've always loved that place.

Thanks for the info/link.

I'd agree with the "inconsistent" comment in the linked review. It was an absolutely great stop for lunch or dinner before the change.
