Apparently Watts has moved up the timeline for getting pledges in. All pledges must now be received by 4PM tomorrow.

This info plus the sudden Carr statement makes me wonder if Watts is trying to make a Friday afternoon announcement.

Trying to shut the door. It's time for the 8-figure enema of justice.

Why would Watts get a say in when the final date for pledges would be due ?

Why is Watts even accepting them at all ?

I had just as soon his next F.U. to the faithful, didn't include any feigned due process or a sham of shared responsibility.

It's not going to be pledge forms that take us to the finish line.

We never knew there was an exact number either. Here's 24 hours to make it happen guys, have fun.

Well of course there would be a deadline, if the pledges have to be made to count for the decision, and the decision is going to be made by Monday, then at the absolute latest, Monday would be a deadline.

Yes, but the point would be that Watts never said "I want $25m before June 1st." There was never "We're at $14.5, we need to push!". Instead, we get his number after it is unofficially leaked on Wed. night, and then he shortens the deadline on Thurs. afternoon to 4 pm Friday. You'd think he didn't want us to make it.

Given a deadline for announcing a decision, is it not obvious there would be a pledge deadline?

Sorry, didn't realize that it was a secret that Monday was the deadline for making an announcement, and given how spacetime works, the pledge forms would need to be in before that.

That is exactly how this works. The BOT wants UaB to be out of the athletics business.

We either meet their demand or they dump the programs into the river.

And if we meet the demand, we will get ransomed again.

The BoT loses one of its old-money thugs this calendar year. Will he still be around? Sure, same as Gary Neal, but they're both old men.

Fess and Espy won't get away the crap Cubby did because their names aren't Bryant.

Maybe the rest of the board will develop a backbone and marginalize the hell out of the bastards.

I'm inclined to believe if we pull this off, football (and UAB) might be safe in the long term.

But then, I've always been an optimist, despite everything.

I'd love for everyone's first year pledge to be delivered to FRW tomorrow...in pennies.

Raising millions of dollars takes time and considering we've raised it basically by word of mouth/social media speaks volumes. In a real-world scenario, pledges & donations of our magnitude would be more than enough to make a decision and capital projects don't happen without a capital campaign... there's no magical deadline to build something when you already own the property.

At this point, it feels like not publicly announcing the number or definitive deadline is a play to squeeze as much money as possible out of the fanbase and community... fearmongering. But it's almost like it has been done by both camps.

I'm ready for a resolution.
