I guess we will see in week 2, Tech at WKU should be a hell of a game. If techs D is half as good as last year, the Dogs should win as tech is stacked on O this year.

I agree, the D is going to be our real question mark for this year, not QB

I think the problem is more the five days, less Vandy.

WKU will have their work cut out for them. I think there are several teams that can play spoiler for us and WKU. FAU might have something to say about them being picked fourth. And we are AT FAU, MTSU, and WKU. Murderers row. La Tech will be riding high from last year...and then away games at Rice, ODU, and FIU might be tricky. I think this year's east winner could very well be 6-2.

We bring back every major player in the highlight except for the QB and one of the CB's.

We're replacing that QB (a former 3rd string at Iowa) with a former 3 year starter in the SEC, who says that he now has the best WR corp he's ever worked with.

Look for more of that (^) this year.

La. Tech. and ODU do not play this season.

Their assistant coaches busted up our stadium last season, and they are not welcome back until they pay for the damages. 01-lauramac2

Marshall's fourth stringer would be a starter at every other school in C-USA and most SEC schools. Don't believe me? Then ask the Marshall fans.

I know. I was speaking of WKU's schedule. I know I didn't write that post very well. I was too lazy to edit it. lol But I don't see how ODU has any control over whether a team returns or not.

RE: Sporting News picks WKU and LaTech
This season could be the most complete team at Tech since the 70's. The offense is going to be much better than last year even though we may not score as many points. Driskel is a upgrade from last year. Almost 100 points last year were contributed by the D. If Tech can beat Southern, which is a question mark since Northwestern and ODU last year, the whole season will be riding on the second game at WKU. I expect WKU to score 30-40 this year so the O better step up and score 50 again.

Going to be a fun season if we can get a W at WKU even when we have another WTF loss.

I think most of us were hoping to win 6 games going into last season. Going into this season we're returning most of our offense that scored 59 on WKU, 55 on UTEP, and 76 on Rice. Anything can happen but I think we have reason to feel pretty good this year.

I think we all (tech fans and myself) will agree your defense drove the offense last year. It was that defense that got Tech to a higher level than they though...preseason?

OK looking back there's a reason Tech was so good on defense ....you had 10 returning starters coming back. This year...5

That's going by Phil Steele

While I don't expect to see Western's defense anywhere close to why Tech did last year...I do think it's very reasonable to get a 15% improvement on 3rd and 4th down and on long plays. Western is returning 8 on defense and with the addition of 2 UAB starters that would be 10. Along with another years experience for our 2nd team which was younger than our starters last year. That should add some depth to the defense...

I'm not looking for a turn around on dee like Tech had last year....15% should be enough to win the conference (east) as long as the offense preforms. It would have been last year

as for the best defense I can think on 8 out of 13 times that wasn't the case last year.

The championship game was between the two top defenses. Wku has the athletes to have a better defense, did you guys make any staff changes on that side of the ball?

No changes to the coaches but we did add some experience (3 UAB players..2 starters) in players. Western was so young last year and actually would play decent defense for 2 plays then give up a big gainer on 3rd down. Or plat decent for 3 downs and give up the first on 4th. With young players all it takes is a mistake to open the door for a long play.

I think we are at the very least 15% better on defense this year in getting off the field on 3rd or 4th down. Last year that would have been good enough 3 more wins. Probably 4. Western lead by double digits in every game but Tech mid way through the 3rd qt. Playing fast hurts more later in the game when you are young on defense and the 2nd are even younger.

Western is sitting where Marshall was at this time last year...all the hype going into the season. Marshall delivered and with Western having a SEC and Big10 team on the schedule early we could get ranked a lot earlier than Marshall....especially with LSU as game 8 and making it respectable or pulling off the upset of the season.

if we deliver on the preseason hype.

LOL...

You care to explain what is so funny to you?

Western doesn't have a team full of superheros like Marshall on defense but then again when you have a offense that can score you don't have to have superheros. I think that showed last year and a small improvement in getting off the field helps a lot.
Every time you post its funny. I don't think anyone takes you serious anymore.
