RE: OOC schedule release is today
Ohio State (in Miami), Oklahoma, Mississippi, @South Carolina, La Tech, Manhattan, USM...I really like that OOC schedule.

Add in UConnx2, Cincyx2, Templex2, SMUx2, and Tulsa...yeah, that's a good schedule.

Like with Ok State, Ou will be a REALLY good team, but from a ticket buying perspective, they won't carry the cache of an average person just dying to buy a ticket to get into the building. USM and Manhattan...if they are being propped up a games to entice ticket holders then woof. USM was 9-20 last year, has the NCAA in their business and lost three of their top scorers. Manhattan finished third in their conference last year and loses their leading scorer/rebounder.

Ole Miss is a nice regional game, but they are going to be pretty down this year and I wouldn't expect a lot of OM fans (mean 1-2K) to come to the game.

There's not really much the coach or AD can do, but I will cringe a little over the next few months when I'm told by the staff how awesome the home OOC schedule is and Manhattan, OM and USM are used as examples.
I get what you are saying, but OU will be nothing like Ok. State. OU will be a top 10 possibly top 5 team and that alone will draw the casual fan. Fans love to see top teams play and this up coming season Oklahoma will be one of those top teams.

RE: OOC schedule release is today
Let's be honest - to the casual basketball fans around the city and the Mid-South (that probably makes up about 20-30% of ticket sales), here is what the schedule actually looks like:

OHIO STATE
OKLAHOMA
SOUTH CAROLINA
OLE MISS
UCONN
CINCINNATI
TEMPLE (maybe)

And that's it.

For the diehard Tiger fans, you can add:

TEMPLE
TULSA
SMU
SOUTHERN MISS
LOUISIANA TECH
MANHATTAN

There will be some very interesting games this year. Thinking the crew coming in, including a new coach, will make a difference over last season's let down.

I agree, just that early in the season (hopefully still working football hard) the OU game won't have a lot of buildup except for paper rankings. I'm guessing it will be their 2nd game of the season as part of the tip off--which means it will be a Tuesday game. I'm guessing a 2pm or 4pm tip time.

I agree, just stating what the schedule probably looks like to various observers.

I'd prefer to drop the Southern University (not USM) and NJIT and Southeast Missouri and play more localized teams like Arkansas State, Austin Peay, MTSU or even another CUSA school that won't demand a H&H.

I'd like to see the school do something H&H with a top tier A10 school as well. And a FB/BB home and home with a MWC school, preferably San Diego State or Boise, but even Colorado State and UNLV work IMO.

Overall, it's fine, I just think they can do a little better on making a slate that is challenging enough to improve the team and appeal to more casual fans as well.

Dude it's not Stanford or MIT.

It's friggin New Jersey Institute of Technology.

NJIT's average SAT and ACT are 1170 and 26.

Georgia Institute of Technology's averages are 1442 and 31.

I agree wholeheartedly. If the Tigers are a tournament-caliber team, the OU game is about the only exciting non-conference HOME game on the schedule.

After losing Louisville last year, the AAC is only getting worse. UCONN should be better this year, and we will see about Cincinnati. But the rest of the conference is pretty much blah. Temple and SMU don't get most people fired up.

All that said, first thing is first: Memphis needs to make the tournament this year and get back on track before worrying about marquee home games. They will have enough overall opportunities to get good wins.

NJIT is one of the nicest public schools I've ever seen, they're a top-150 school...we're not even ranked.
