North Texas opened its doors in 1890 and we currently have just over 36,000 students, so we have had time to get our number up.

Charlotte was founded in 1946 as two-year Charlotte College to serve soldiers returning from WWII. We went to four years in 1963, and became a part of the UNC System in 1965 which is considered the start of the modern era of the University. When the school was young it was small and therefore there were not many alums. Now we are over 27,000 students and cranking them out. By 2020 we should hit 40,000. In the last five years the 17 schools in the UNC System added an additional 6800 students. 48% of them at Charlotte.

2020 is 6 years away, we might hit 30,000 by then but not 40K.

Multiple times school "officials" have stated we would be at ~35,000 students by atleast 2020.

Yeah, we haven't built a new classroom building on the main campus since Woodward opened and the funding from the 2001 bond referendum just ran out. There may be room for 30K but that long delayed new Science Building that's supposed to one day be where Black Lot is tells me we ain't getting to 35K in 6 years.

You might want to advise the Admin. then because that is the number/date CHP used in Union County less than 2 weeks ago. 03-lmfao......Dorms are as much an issue as classroom space and we are CLEARLY adding dorms at a crazy high rate.

FIU opened its doors in 1972, though it was "founded" in 1965, politics in part helped in delaying naming the president and staff, therefore opening so late 7 years later. Today, we have over 54,000 students. By 2020 it is expected FIU will have about 65,000 students and graduating close to 15,000 new alumns every year.

RE: How many Alumni does your University have?
Interesting thread topic that I must've missed seeing last year. I went ahead and compiled the numbers posted in the thread so far to come up with this rough list of alumni for each school:

1. 326k for UNT as per: MDH
2. FIU just surpassed the 200,000 mark as per: FIUFanatic
3. Marshall: 150,000 but that number might include wives, etc... according to some previous Marshall posters *could be as low as as #9: I have heard our alumni base is around 105K as per: SVHerd
4. more than 124,000 now for ODU as per: dveyanks90
5. Southern Miss has a little over 120,000 living alumni as per: Eagle Lurker
6. UAB has over 115,000 alumni as per: UABslant
7. Was just over 110k as of June 2013 for Middle Tennessee as per: Blue Raider Dave
8. Charlotte: I would guess we are around 110k at this point as per: Nugget49er
9. 110k at UTEP as per: zyxwvutsru
10. UTSA has between 105k and 110k as per: Irish Rowdy
11. WKU has just over 102k as per: wkuhilltopperfan
12. LaTech: The latest number I've been able to dig up is from 2013. It was ~76,000 then. So we're probably around 80k now as per: Sixwings86
13. ~52,000 for Rice as per: NoodleOwl

Still looking for numbers from: FAU.

Marshall didn't begin offering degrees until it became a "state normal" school or teacher training center. I think MU offered its first four year degree around 1920, but I could be wrong.

Our actual Alumni Association says over 150k. I would say they are more reliable than a poster on this board going by memory.

The number of Owls earning degrees in 1984, including graduate students (like me), was less than my high school graduating class in 1977.

Same for me in '84. My HS class in 198 was 713.

Updated the list for ya. Interesting that no one has commented on the sizable gap UNT leads by. Why so many from UNT already? Also, anyone confirm more solid FAU's numbers? Rice is definitely smallest and last in this metric.

With the demolition of the north end-zone seats of Rice Stadium is it still possible to fit all alums, living and dead, in there?

Impossible, not happening. They graduated 3.6K in the class of 2013. We are lucky if the average person lives 50 years after graduation. If for the past 50 years UNT graduated 3.6K (didn't happen)and if each of those are still living (also not happening) that is only 180K. That 326K number must be the number of people who have graduated from UNT rather than number of living alumni.

UTSA has between 105k and 110k.

The University of Southern Mississippi at the end of the 2014 academic year had 113,715 graduates of which 14,040 were dues paying members of the alumni association. Alumni assn paid membersip peaked at over 22,000 just over 2yrs ago but suffered a decline as did all phases of the university due to our athletic dept turmoil. There is no record of the number of living alumni as most contact is between dues paying members. The 14,050 is the most important figure, how do the other universities compare with that? I dont know if there is a record of total number ever attending but didnt graduate.

I just wanted to compile the posted numbers from the thread into a list for easier digesting when I saw it. It's actually kinda surprising this statistic is so difficult to pin down for colleges and universities. You'd think in general they'd be more on top of this and publicize it more.

For me, the more important number is living folks who have actually graduated from the school.

(Don't know if the numbers in the list reflect that exactly; as one poster said about Marshall, the 150,000 number cited by their Alum Assoc might include wives, which I find hard to believe is used as a metric, but there might be funding reasons, etc...I guess) Whether they are formal dues paying members has some weight, more for fundraising. Number of people who ever attended and number who may have but are now dead are far less interesting numbers to me.

And I'm more skeptical of UNT's number above now with the recent post a few above. Anyone have a better number for them?

Turns out most present CUSA schools are in the same general range with Rice outlier at the bottom, and UNT and FIU and perhaps Marshall depending on their stat are outliers at the top.

Going to Rice, we were always dwarfed by Texas and Texas A&M... Many of us went to bigger high schools. It's a little bigger now, but it was certainly kinda weird back in the SWC days not too long ago. Heck, Texas has one single dorm that has its own zip code! That's big.
