Underwood was the frontrunner for our job a year ago. There were even reports he was going to be our next coach. In the end he used us to get a big raise and extension from SFA.

Yep, I'll give you credit for that.

But it was my post on the Alabama vacancy thread that probably convinced Mike White to move up to a better job. lol

He's had 3 great seasons and nothing to show for it. Now he heads into his 4th season with a young team and won't be any closer to an NCAA bid.

La Tech hasn't been to the NCAA tournament in more than 2 decades and after being snubbed again, Mike White should have contemplated his future. It's clear to me that he dropped the ball on this latest round of coaching musical chairs.

And if I recall correctly SB, you got raked over the coals for those comments.

I know Tech fans hate to see him go but it's a testament to how good a hire he was. He's leaving your program in much better shape than when he arrived.

@theJFord: The last day of class for Spring Quarter at #LATech is May 22. Tech probably needs to have a new coach in place by that day.

Dont take this the wrong way, but from a major BB hire would you not expect UF to get a bigger name?

I know its late in the coaching cyle, but man...

Texas ended up with the best of the coaching candidates and UF with a recent national title got the uo and comer from LT. Not shot at LT, but I would have expected a bigger name.

Good luck White! Make us proud, but it is a strange overall path to get you there

Not strange at all and Mike White was one the best coaching candidates that was out there. If you don't remember MW turned down Tennessee, he knew he could get and wanted a better basketball program

Its less about turning down programs and more about recruiting ability, winning percentage as a head coach, and paternal lineage. Bonus, close to the beach house. MW will do very well at UF.

The bolded sentence gets my vote for the most inaccurate statement of the day.

From any standpoint, except possibly recruiting, Mike White >>>> Shaka Smart.

Sorry to hear about White, but all of us at this level know that the minute we get a shining star of a coach, he's off to another galaxy.

Rick Stansbury would be a good hire.

RE: LT's Michael White emerges as Florida’s leading candidate
If Tech didn't already have a short list of names ...someone wasn't doing their job. When your coach interviews for a job last year you start making a list. When your coach interviewed last year and you win 27 games this year that list should have gotten shorter 2 months ago. When UF started needing a coach that list should have been down to 3 to 5 names and your top choice on speed dial.

Rick Stansbury would be at the top of my list..when you get Miss St in the top 25 6 out of 14 years you can coach and recruit

I don't think May will get it unless some others say no. Look for Brad Underwood to be the top candidate. I would love to have Stansbury. He would fit into the culture well and has recruited the area.

Edited mine. I think techdawg88's link links to this article:

White will bring both Jordan Mincy and Darris Nichols to Gainesville as assistants, sources told CBSSports.com. Both were assistants under White at Louisiana Tech. He will hold the final spot for Dusty May, who will attempt to get the head coaching job at Louisiana Tech
