JJ also visited Matt Colemen yesterday, the Maury guard is a 2017 top target.

You sure that visit is in the budget?

Matt would be a great hometown hero, very likable guy who would quickly be a fan favorite.

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den
I saw a tweet yesterday from the Norfolk Knight's AAU coach of Marquis Godwin in which he indicated that Godwin said he is getting the most persistent attention from ODU.
I re-watched the JJ hiring press conference yesterday on "bbodu" and Coach Jones stressed that he and his future staff were going to put a heavy emphasis on recruiting VA. He seems to be holding true to that.

Absolutely! Was just jesting about the taxing recruiting trip. JJ must be exhausted.

Yeah JJ is sending Stith flying all over the place and he is just driving down the street.
I watch Godwin have that game where he drop like a 35 points. He was in the zone, he was pulling off this shot where he was jumping up, catching the ball and shooting a 3. It was like all in one motion, crazy.

Godwin still seems to be leaning toward UVA or Tech based on 247. I'd like to see him move ODU to "warm".

Let's see....go to VT and never sniff the NCAA, or go to ODU where you have a pretty good shot at it each year.

Nothing against them fine folks at 247, but they seem to do a MUCH better job with football than with basketball.

That may be, but I *think* the cold, warm, etc. things there are done by the athletes. They can log in and change that.
I could be wrong on that.

Godwin just needs to remember his own words:
@mgodwin_10 ·
ODU is proven! Won 2 close games back to back. #EnoughSaid
@mgodwin_10 ·
Big shoutout to Coach Jones! One of the best coaches in College Basketball. He has completely turned the ODU basketball program around!

As much as we all might dislike VT, you better believe Buzz Williams will have VT competing again amongst the ACC. His last season with Marquette was 1 of 7 he didnt reach at least 24 wins. And if you haven't noticed, hes got a couple studs in his 2015 recruiting class.
I dont like them anymore than the next guy, but statements like that dont hold much value.

I'll believe it when I see it. Doucheberg had a lot of stud recruits as well. That program is cursed.

Even if he increases the level of competition, they are still going to struggle to make it. Right now you have Duke, UNC, UVA, NC St., Syracuse, Louisville, and Notre Dame that are all but guaranteed to be ahead of VT even if they are playing better.
That's 7 NCAA bids right there...you really think VT is going to be able to amass enough conference wins to garner an NCAA bid on the regular? They will be competing with BC, Clemson, Wake, FSU, GT, Pitt and Miami for the other bid (if there is one). They are at best on par with Miami, FSU, and Pitt which I would consider the next best of the bunch...I just don't see a scenario where Tech is a consistent contender. Too much talent in that conference.
So yes - I think my statement does hold value.

Good point actually.
It's easier to win the NL Central most years than it is the AL East. Va Tech could have quite a few big recruits and still never make the NCAA tourney.
But with that said, Buzz Williams is a pretty darn good coach and it wouldn't surprise me to see him finally get them over the top although I truly hope that never happens.

I agree with you that Buzz is a great coach, and certainly raises their profile. I just don't think it will be enough.
If I'm going with the odds, ODU is going to have better odds of making the tourney on CONSISTENT basis than VT will. VT may catch a flash and make it 1 yr out of every 5 or 6 at best (and yes, yes, I know ODU hasn't been there in a few years), but on the whole we are going to have a better shot at it each season than they will.
For reference they have ONE NCAA bid in the last 18 years. 2 in the last 29. Not great performances. ODU has EIGHT over that same time period.

As long as CUSA continues to be a 1-bid league and the ACC continues to be a 6-8 bid league, not sure I agree. We will have to get to Memphis status or get promoted to a better league to be a consistent tournament team. As we saw this year, a few bad games half way across the country and we are doomed.

Kinda weird you chose to demonstrate this point with the best NL division.

It's really early this year to judge how good any division is.
However historically, the Cardinals have been the only consistently good team in that division over the last decade or so. The Pirates have been ok lately but the Cubs always suck, the Reds are thoroughly mediocre and the Brewers are usually pretty bad.
So no, my point is valid, historically, it is easier to win that division that the absurd spending teams of the AL East. The payroll of the Yanks and Sox alone are more than the rest of that division combined.
