So who we fighting it out for to get Kimani Jackson? I saw Tennessee just fired their coach amid his whole scandal, maybe that will take them out of the picture.

If top caliber guys from this area like Matt Coleman stay home at ODU then there is no doubt in my mind that ODU can and will become better than Texas. I'm positive that coach Jones along with coach Stith and the rest are superior coaches to Shaka and whoever he ends up having as his assistants. Besides that, who would you rather have cheering you on ... your hometown crowd (friends, neighbors, family members, etc.) or a bunch of strangers that only care about how many wins you are going to provide to their program? Wouldn't you rather see your name in the local newspaper for the same reasons than in one hundreds of miles away where few of your friends would ever get to see it? Wouldn't you rather be on the local sports news broadcast showing your game highlights instead of having the local news showing them hundreds of miles away from your home/friends/neighbors/family? If I was a local kid that was that good the answer would be right there in front of me. THE KIDS MAKE THE PROGRAM, NOT THE NAME OF THE SCHOOL. Coach Jones (and staff) are probably better than a lot of what the so called big name schools have running things, and with just a few more key pieces in place ODU will be there front and center. Heck, the team has progressed to the NIT Final 4 in NYC after coming from a 5 win season just 2 years ago before Jones arrived. I'd be happy to hollar for Matt wearing an ODU uniform playing along side the Stiths (and others).
Texas has their own tv network and an endless supply of money. To expect us to be consistently as good as Texas is probably a pipedream.
We BJ Stith as our highest rated recruit ever. He would almost be an afterthought in a recruiting class at Texas.
I love Coach Jones and the school. But, we have to be somewhat realistic. Our ability to compete rests on us taking 3 star guys and improving them, not on the ability to recruit 5 star guys.

To me, unless you're a 5-star recruit, it's meaningless. We've now gone from, 2-3-4-5 rankings to 3.3, 2.7, whatever -- with never any explanation as to why. Someone on here said Jon Arledge was a 4-star out of HS. No offense to him, but did he ever play like you'd expect a 4-star to play? We didn't have anyone higher than 2 stars, and we won 27 games. I've been told that there are Final Four teams that had nothing but 2 stars. If I'm not mistaken, after GMU's big run, wasn't Patrick Holloway a 3 star or 3+ star. I never remember him playing at a consistently high level.

Aim high!
Aim High for sure, but you have to be realistic. Our success isn't going to be because we get 4-5 star recruits. It's because we are more cohesive and develop our players better.

These are averages of 3 rating agencies...Rivals, ESPN, and 247, I believe.
Wisconsin only has 1 starter with a rating above 3 - recruiting ratings mean nothing. Just look at VCU if you don't believe. No way Burgess, Tillman and Larrier are 4* they should be 2 - 2.5*, ratings means nothing until they show up for practice
Biggest issue is Tillman and Larrier are true FRESHMAN. They played pretty darn well for FRESHMAN. They have not developed yet. Wisconsin develops players and they are mostly upperclassman. Star ratings do make a difference and for the most part highlight recruits that have higher skill level. There is a difference between comparing 2 and 3 star recruits that came in as a freshman and now have developed as juniors and seniors vs looking at 3 and 4 star freshman.

yes and they played like freshman, they may develop, or maybe not. these guys are not 4* freshman
Ratings services have to be taken for what they are. An imprecise measuring stick, sometimes being done by people with questionable ability to rate players. So, take them for what they are worth, always knowing they are very imprecise and there are always noteable exceptions to players abilities. However, taken as a whole, I'll play the odds everyday on taking a 4-5* players over a 2-3* players. It's silly to say ratings services are worthless. They just aren't perfect and should never be relied upon exclusively in evaluating talent.
I would like to see some 3+ stars, certainly some 3 stars, but as has been stated, that is not the end all and be all. I am more interested in who we are competing with for a kid. If we can start competing with VCU, WSU, Butler, Temple, Dayton, NIU, etc. and we can win some of those battles, in my mind that will mean that we are growing significantly as a program. What I don't want to see is situations where we are the only D1 offer, or we are competing with Radford on a regular basis. Yes, you can sometimes find some good ones that got overlooked, but in the big picture, the more highly regarded recruits you land, the better opportunity that they pan out in the long run.
