Its a long time till kickoff
Liberty fans taking offense to an apt analogy.
It's hilarious to watch as this thread as evolved (see what I did there?).
BTW, the Nazi's wore belt buckles proclaiming "God with us" and Hitler said in speeches that he considered himself a Christian warrior against the Jews.

I think you mean Liberty fan. There has been only one posting in this thread right?

Labeling a human being as a herpes sore is not an apt analogy, and if you do not recognize that, your family has my sympathy.

RE: Its a long time till kickoff
this whole thread started as a joke to kill time....even the original post about Liberty "being like an outbreak like herpes..." I took as total tongue in cheek....unfortunately it became something else......

Of course there is no actual correlation with Liberty posters being like an STD....they are good folks and LIKE A is not you are.....my apologies to anyone offended by where this thread wandered off.

I hope that as much fun as football is and occasional smack talk is....this is a game....a simple game ....that brings a good many folks smiles, angst, groans and just plain family fun......

Good luck to all including Liberty....God, Family, Country.......and way later anything else...04-rock

RE: Its a long time till kickoff
So we have been reminded that Liberty is not a cultural fit most any conference because they can't take an innocuous joke. Most fans of most FBS conference teams have had far worse said about their team, school, city and/or fan base.

Except Texas State. The town is perfect, the food is awesome, the fans are terrific, the campus is spectacular, the stadium is legit and the women's are unparalleled.

Come on Rev, we've only been working on that for 12 decades. Give it some time. (ok, baseball only 4 but you get the idea)

So you don't mind being labeled as a slut or a cancer or some other thing that demeans you as a human being. Got it. Somehow, I can't see many people reacting so blandly if their "hot button" was pressed to label them as something they find offensive (opposite of innocuous).

So many of you are describing what TheRevSWT said as an analogy. This forum should not be an English class as most, if not all, on here are college educated people, but look again at what he said:

"There will always be Liberty threads. They are very similar to herpes: You can have no sign of a Liberty poster for months, and then bam... a breakout happens. This is the time that the sores known as Liberty posters come out and hang on, taking any form of information as a sign that Liberty is being discussed and allowing them to chime in."

I'm hoping you can see the difference, that one compares, the other replaces.

I'm sorry if it seems like I'm harping on this subject, but it's one thing to combat someone's actions, it's something totally different to denigrate a person with whom you do not agree. I certainly believe people on this board are intelligent enough to be able to do that.

What was originally intended as a bad joke (but apt comparison), has caused this bad joke to take it and run.

Soooo, what you've "bolded". . . . You're taking that as a literal interpretation?

If so, ease up . . . I think that most posters here that read the post took it the way it was intended, as a humorous analogy . . .. If you see anything else, you're reading way too much into it . . . . .

Also, you state that he "denigrates a person." If I read the post correctly, he denigrates ALL Liberty posters, a big difference, but again, I just took it as a humorous analogy . . . .

Do you often struggle with reading comprehension? No order was given, in point of fact it WAS a suggestion. But truth be told, you strike me as a guy who is often caught up in "righteous indignation " at slights real/imagined . .

The original post was an attempt at humor, perhaps a poor attempt, but an attempt Nevertheles. It was NOT as you suggest, a personal attack. . . .

But if you're the type that looks to be offended, I suppose Offense can be easily taken.

And keep your sympathy . . Lighten up Francis . . . . .

No struggle on my part. "Ease up" is a command, "I suggest you ease up" is a suggestion. I wonder how you made it to high school if you don't understand that.

You aren't the one who made the post, so how do you know it wasn't meant to be a personal attack?

The attack wasn't directed to me. I'm not a Liberty University fan or supporter.

My sympathy wasn't for you, it's for your family.

Gee, another command. I wonder who Francis is.
