Worst officiating ever?
I know they used to say it was very difficult to officiate a game when Shaq played because he was so big that a simple nudge could knock people back..... I guess officiating a game with a squirt that acted like he got fouled on every drive is difficult too...
Or maybe the officials just sucked!

Kid was money from deep in the first half. But yes he played his size to his advantage and gets an oscar for those head throw backs.

I'm all about giving the kid his due, but when he decided to do his little half court dance, I lost it...27 just gets him 1 in the loss column

RE: Worst officiating ever?
I think the thread title is complete BS. It was not only not the "worst officiated game ever" but it was actually a pretty damn good game from the crew. A fouls a foul. They called illegal contact. Whether it was just a little contact or not, you can't say (least not if you know squat about basketball) it was a poorly officiated game.
"Blame the refs" is the poor mans excuse for why his team lost/didn't play well.

Have you noticed when we play poorly, the refs seem to get blamed. Maybe if Bacote doesn't go 1 for 10 the refs would have done a better job.

We said it at the game. They called it evenly. Some good/bad calls both ways. What was done/said to Ross at half when he had to be held back? My dad said another player threw the ball at his back but neither of us really caught it.

It's not just us. Every team wants to blame the officials for losses.
I thought the officials were ok. They missed a few blatant calls (do you remember where Arledge blocked a 3 point shot and the guy completely held him to prevent him from getting hit?), and they should have given Jones a technical when he chased them to midcourt, but we've had worse officiating and we'll have better.

Worst officiating ever?
They didn't T up Jones at half court because they knew they blew that one big time and game him a little more leeway. Notice the ref went right inside the other bench's huddle for about 20-15 seconds immediately after that.

I know why they didn't give one to him, but they should have. When a coach comes to midcourt after the officials like that, it should be automatic.

I admire guys that can get to the line. It's the most efficient shot in basketball. I wouldn't hate on the kid for it.

The guy was only 7-9 from the foul line, and 6 of his makes came in the first 6 minutes of the game. After that CSU was 5-10 from the line the rest of the game.
Not sure why this is a discussion point.

From my perspective that is not really what happened. The ref was going to JJ to tell him to get Mosley under control. Jeff stepped between the ref and Moseley and picked up where Ambrose left off rather than letting the ref give dictate the discussion.

Bryan Kersey, Everett Summers, Tim Clougherty
Based on reputation, that's a pretty damn good crew. Worked lots of ACC+ games. Kersey the son of Jess K, ex-NBA official and Va H of F member. Lives Newport News, I believe.
Other than a couple of calls, I thought they were fine. And you have them every game

RE: Worst officiating ever?
It wasn't even close to being the worst ever, not even that bad. You had a smaller team that was working the refs, acting out fouls and playing with a chip on their shoulder. They slowed down on calling the BS head getting throw back act. They gave JJ a chance to vent without a T, that could of been worst. Brian Kersey is a good Ref has done many Final Fours, the crew wasn't that bad. When Brian came to talk to Ambrose, after he was chatting it up with the CSU player. JJ saw a chance to get his 2-cent in and he did. It had the effect it needed, the ref went and talk to the other coach and player. No big deal.
I hate these treads. It's worst than a player faking/flopping or complaining about ever call. Our players don't do that, either should we.

Was wondering what the heated discussion between Jones and the ref was all about. Generally, the ref should go to the coach, not the player directly, to controll a kid. glad Jeff wasn't assesses a technical. But the players saw that their Coach had their back. The ref immediately went to an assistant on CSU side and wagged a finger at him, so I assumed that Jeff made his point. He then went inside CSU huddle for a while and said something.
The game was absolutely terrific. My hat's off to ODU, the coaches and players.
Charleston Southern players did a lot of "flopping" and head jerking on the least amount of contact. Sometimes it paid off, sometimes not.

RE: Worst officiating ever?
My point was the little guy would get to the spot before the defender lean down and it looks like the defender was pushing him when there was very little contact. on the other hand when our guards were taking it up the court they would get pushed on and because they were not small and flopping around they didn't get the call. If they played VCU that small guard would either get a hundred free throws or his body would be in shambles depending on on how the refs wanted to handle it

RE: Worst officiating ever?
This entire year was the worst officiating I have ever seen. They need to decide if they are going to enforce all the rules or let them play and stick to one or the other. It drives me nuts when they let them play in the first half and then call ticky tacky stuff in the 2nd. Just be consistent, that is all I ask. This crap cost of the UTSA game as well as the CUSA tourney game against MTSU. That said, I do think they were at least somewhat consistent last night.

You are better than this...prob. one of (if not the) best posters on this site, but this sounds bitter.
I think we lost the UTSA game because we settled for 30 3 point attempts instead of driving into the lane. We shot almost 10% worse from the field than UTSA. That might be more to blame than the refs.
And shooting 40% from the free throw line (that those lousy refs must put you on) prob. had something to do with the UTSA loss.
Come on man.

He didn't do anything our players have done when fired up. The kid is money, can't hate on him for being fired up. I actually liked it, he didnt taunt anyone, point out anyone, just was "feeling it."
