NTR - Gus's Coming to Philly
This is so not Tiger related, but the fact that Gus's is opening a place in Philly will certainly take me back to my years on Patterson and Central when I crammed four years of college into seven.

I don't know, they have a hard enough time getting the chicken the same in the local locations. What makes them think they can keep it the same across the nation?

Hope it tastes as good down here as it does up there! Wonder where it will be, downtown Ft. Worth?

Not the same if you don't know what side of the table/shack to sit on so your buddy's beer won't spill in case of a tipped 40 oz.

NTR - Gus's Coming to Philly
The one in Nashville closed. Not the best location. It sucks because it was good. Then again, Nashville is known for hot chicken which added solid competition.

That's for sure! I hear the original was awesome. I know I'm gonna get crucified for this, but I find it dry and overcooked. I really don't get it. Also everybody doesn't go for spicy. They should offer an alternative.

Flame away!

I get down there every couple years and always eat at Gus's. Recently, I think the downtown location isn't nearly as good as it used to be. Haven't been to the original place in years, but it couldn't be beat.

Still better than anything they've got here in Iowa. Too bad they're not expanding to the TwinCities or Des Moines.

The original shack was great until it burned down. Then, some white dude bought it, rebuilt it, and franchised it.
None are as good as the original.

Tarrence made the best chicken in the Gus' immediate family. Gus used to get mad at him for making his "batter" spicier than the original recipie.

The original had more kick especially when tarrence made the pink ghostbuster slime-looking batter

NTR - Gus's Coming to Philly
Maggie has to be smiling in heaven. She invented the recipe and started Maggie's in Mason. Gus was her nephew. He inherited the cafe and recipe and named it for himself.

It is really good, unique spicy chicken. If you don't like it, you just don't. If everybody wanted the same thing, imagine what a line there would be to get it.

Last time I was in Memphis, I ate 12 times in 3 days, and every single meal was barbecue. The only exception was Gus's right before heading to the airport. It was pretty awesome.

Not at all. If you want spicy, have hot chicken.

I hear you on that. It's similar to what I do when I'm in town, except I now add 1 Uncle Lou's spicy love chicken and 1 Bryant's breakfast to the 11 Bbq meals and 1 Gus's. You should expand as well.

Makes sense. The Nashville location was franchised. It also helps to have some serious seasoned pans.

good lord, man. has there ever been a point in your life when you knew what you were talking about?

the only one i've eaten at that wasn't good was the old one in southaven that was off airways. the new one they built off goodman is good. hell, i think i've eaten at every location in shelby county, and they're always good. it might be spicier on some occasions, but i don't have a problem with that.

I will next time. Last time I was in, I went straight from Interstate to Corky's for a double lunch and it kind of snowballed from there. I'm going to stray a little bit (but not too far) away from ribs next time.
