OT: Sling TV deal
Today Sling TV is giving away your choice of a Fire TV stick, Roku stick, $50 Fire TV Box, or $50 Roku 3 if you prepay for 3 months of service.

Wow, that's a great deal.

I have a FireTV and I'm just waiting on them to release the damn app.

Edit: Looks like the app launched on FireTV today.

RE: OT: Sling TV deal
Help me out here guys. I would really like to cancel my Direct TV when my contract is up next month but I don't know how I would get on without my live sports.

I don't mind buying MLS Direct Kick or even The CUSA TV package but what about ESPN and all the bowl games?

Sling TV covers you on E$PN for $20/month.

For me, E$PN and their bias and funneling of $ to the P5 was my reason to leave cable.

I discussed with some folks in the know and it appears our deal with CBS is gonna make it hard to watch a good bit of our games with out cable or satelite. Don't know the complete details but thats kinda what I was told.

Whats on ESPN that carries CUSA games? Only way I get to watch WKU and other CUSA games is via Direct TV...Sure its sounds great to save some money, but to me its worth paying Direct TV watch all of these games not P5 teams on Direct TV...You could never do this on "sling TV"..Only games on ESPN are the cartel programs...

If I'm not mistaken, the CUSA conference can be seen for $100 an entire season.

I think I'm going to get Sling TV. The only problem is that it only works on one TV at a time.

Bummer.

Which is a rip off if you ask me...CUSA digital tv network is just individual schools, with sometimes scoreboard feed that is not great quality audio or video....Only keeping sports package for 5 months at $65 for me is a great deal to watch games on an actual TV and also have ability to record, stop, pause, rewind live action...To me that is way more worth it than watching online feed....Everyone has their own opinion, I just prefer Direct TV....

We have one more year with cbs having some C-USA content and they have not carried near as much as Fox has. Unless they are going to up their bid and content for the next contract.

Our tv blessing has become an internet curse. Now that we have so many games on tv its hard to find them on streaming internet.

RE: OT: Sling TV deal
I did sign up for the 2 week free trial from Sling TV. I kind of wish they had more channels though - something like 14 channels total but none of the main networks so it's basically ESPN and ESPN2, TNT and TBS, Food Network, ABC Family, Disney, and a few others. They are supposedly adding AMC too in the near future. I do think $20 a month for that is a little pricey when Netflix and Hulu are $5-6 a month apiece. But if it will include ESPN3 (and I'm not sure if it will or not), then it might be worth it. You can add a sports pack for another $5 a month and that includes most of the ESPN specialty sports packs but some of those are for only brief periods of time (like the ESPN Bases Loaded channel).

ETA - sports pack extra gets you ESPNU, SEC Network, ESPNews, ESPN Goal Line (some extra college live games - Bases Loaded during NCAA playoffs in baseball, Goal Line during football season and Buzzer Beater during basketball season), BEIN Sport (mostly worldwide soccer and some other sports), Universal Sports Network and a Univision sports channel.

You have access to WatchESPN with sling TV. Not sure if you need the sports tier or not, but I went ahead and added that for ESPN U.

Are you a full subscriber to Sling? I couldn't get it but I might not be able to do that unless I was a full subscriber and not on the 2 week free trial?

Nope. All 3 of our deals are ending at the end of the 2015-16 school year. Cbs, Fox and ASN. I didn't list espn because they only have our championship football game. Negotiations with media partners are on-going.

Its 15 Channels for $20. I have Sling , Hulu PLus and Netflix plus 40 plus OTA channles in HD. More TV viewing than I could ever actually watch. Your Sling credentials also work for WatchESPN and they are working on ESPN3.

With the basic package your credentials give you ESPN and ESPN2 on WatchESPN. You get the other channels with the Sports Add On Package for $5. The missing part is ESPN3 which they are working on.

The best thing you didn't say too is that all of those services allow you to sign up and cancel as you wish online without talking to anyone!

During the slow season, you can easily dump Hulu and save the $8/mo. Hulu is kinda garbage in the summer, but it's great when new shows are on.

Very true. I will not add the sports package until August because I am a football guy. But that flexibility is nice with these OTT services. I am really liking Sling. Also noticing that their website looks different every 24 hours. They are doing a lot of upgrading.

RE: OT: Sling TV deal
All those channels (Hulu, Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc.) are creating original programming too. I think it was Hulu that signed James Franco to a deal to do a miniseries based on the Stephen King book about the JFK killing (11/22/63). Good book, although I don't see Franco as the proper lead.

I really think DirecTV and cable networks are going to lose lots of subscribers over the coming years to services like this. But I also expect the networks to add their own channels (CBS already has one but it's not widespread yet and HBO will have one of its own later this year). And then they may decide they want to keep all of their programming on their own services rather than put them on sites like Hulu.
