Why the Lawson will make such a difference
I believe the Lawson brothers will make the Tigers so much better because they can knock down shots over most guards in transition. These zones are what kill the Tigers. Most teams won't play us man to man the whole game because of Austin. We throw the ball away so much trying to feed the post, the Lawsons will be able to see over the defense. If Austin stays, which I believe he will, we should be at the very least a sweet 16 next year. A lot of the teams in the AAC have several senior players this year we won't have to face next year. Just a thought.

You are correct these zones force us to attempt more perimeter shots which are a lower percentage. In contrast our opponents constantly attack the rim like Temple did today and we NEVER stop the bleeding. We never play zone or stay in one long enough to force teams to stop attacking the rim on every play.

Why?

Playing basketball at Memphis on scholarship is a privilege not a right. When a player does not give his full effort and attention, I will call him on it. One of major problems now is they take playing here for granted.

When Temple zoned us in the first half we destroyed them...

When they went Man to Man in the second half and ignored our center is when our offense went stagnant. Unless the Lawsons can consitently create off the dribble for themselves and others we will be in the same boat unless one of guards grows their nut sack back when it is time to drive to the rim. The drive to the rim like they are wearing skirts...

Embrace the contact...Get your fouls...And if you get a charge so be it...If that causes a couple of bad shots...It also creates opportunities for offensive rebounds...But continually playing CAREFUL on the perimeter is going to continue to produce droughts when we don't make 3's.

RE: Why the Lawson will make such a difference
I have gotten to the point I will not be counting on freshmen, too volatile and often need a year or two. I think the Lawsons will help a great deal, but unless our quality frontcourt players add strength (Nichols) and focus (Shaq) and our guards become stronger with the ball, we'll struggle some.

If our returners make improvements, we address some concerns in gameplanning/prep, and the freshmen are decent, we'll be good next year. But that is a lot of ifs.

Time will tell.

Option or opinion? And I have seen them play. Just like I saw Joe Jackson, Adonis Thomas, Shaq, and all the others play.
