Here's an interesting article. 04-cheers

Which schools make the most of their recruits?

Quote:The geniuses over at Five ThirtyEight appliied statistical analysis to which schools/teams extract the most value out of their recruits.

If you are counting g5, Boise would be first. UCF and Cincinnati would be worth mentioning.

I don't even need to click and I know we're near the bottom.

ND is about in the middle, actually.

Before looking I would have guessed Oregon, Wisconsin, and K-State. K-State doesn't "outperform" quite as much as I thought.

Narrow the years to Snyder's return (09 on) and KSU will fly up that list.

I saw something similar before on deadspin.

http://regressing.deadspin.com/chart-whi...1640831522

Doesn't include the 2014 season though.

NIU as well. Our recruiting rankings are as often as not in the bottom half of the MAC, which is nearer the bottom of all FBS schools.

Well I guess I should be happy that Iowa is "ahead of the curve" but all that means to me is that Ferentz is becoming a garbage recruiter. Iowa used to get a lot better recruits than they get with him these days.

That list is only P5 schools. Naturally.

Why are you guys still holding on to him? I would think that Iowa would be a top 20-30ish coaching destination.... I don't think he is doing anything for you guys.

5 of the bottom 8 are Big Ten schools. Ouch. At least Wisconsin, NW, OSU, and MSU do well.

RE: Which schools make the most of their recruits?
I wonder how much of this is due to recruiting rankings being a "one size fits all" process. A particular type of player might fit Georgia Tech's offense very well, but not a pro style offense. Or perhaps be suited for an up tempo spread offense, but not the kind of power game preferred by a school like Alabama.

And how does 538 factor in Jucos and other transfers into its predictive rankings?

This why I cry at night being a fan of Purdue football, at least we're not Georgia State. xD

System fit is obviously a big deal and where a lot of this gets skewed. A 2star kid with little size, mediocre top speed, but quick out of his breaks with crisp route running can be very productive as a slot in the air raid and a chump in some run heavy schemes.

Similar things are true on defense as well. A guy who is a "tweener" or a misfit in one scheme is perfect for some other scheme and what they ask of him. John Randle is the classic NFL example of this. Came into the league at 244, too slow as a LB, not a good edge rusher, but an ALL PRO as a one gap DT that would likely be a role guy in a 2 gap scheme. Gil Brandt had a great article on it when HOF was announced recently.

Youre much worse than GSU. We have existed 5 years and been FBS 2. Purdue has played 123 years and has played in one Rose Bowl. C'mon Son.

You keep telling yourself that. As long as you think you are relevant then you will probably sleep well at night and that is what is important.

Be honest, how much does the B1G pay you to be their internet bouncer?

G5 fans here hilariously delusional. It's quite entertaining how they constantly come up with wild realignment ideas which would benefit their favorite team....

Actually we've been to two Rose Bowls, and won 1 in 1967 when Bob Griese was the QB. Have you seen our recent records? The only decent season we've had recently was the 7-6 season, and the actual last good QB we had was Kyle Orton. Sorry I wasn't trying to offend Georgia State in any way, as I can see you guy's have had so much bad luck as a program. Sometimes I have to make self-humor as a fan of Purdue football, otherwise I'd be depressed all the time. Anyway, let's get back on topic as to which schools make the most of their recruits.
