Employees shouldn't have to wash their hands after using the restroom because it limits their freedom.

People eat clams sh!t, piss and all. Same with oysters. And what's in liver? People should wash their hands but unfortunately a lot don't. How many doorknobs do we touch by people who didn't wash their hands, just picked a booger, scratched a 'roid, or whatever? But what's the big deal anyway? If a butthole can be considered a sex organ, how dangerous can it be?

Oh so there shouldn't be regulations mandating hand washing but there should be regulations mandating notice of those businesses that opt out of hand washing. More con logic. 01-wingedeagle

Bizz...does your cat or dog ever lick you? Maybe after they licked their butt?

Restaurants can require or not require employees to wash their hands, but do you think an employee who is required to wash his hands actually does? And when he walks out of the bano he's touching a doorknob that was touched by everyone else who didn't wash their hands.

And no, I'm not defending those who don't wash their hands, I'm being realistic.

Why do republicans keep shooting themselves in the foot by taking on stupid issues like this? Yes the media is biased against them and trying to trip them up all the time. But it's like Bob Beckel said the other day, you know that, so don't f**k up.

He plainly said As long as A sign is posted that says Our Employees Do Not have to Wash Their Hands after Using Bathroom then Customers can opt to Go Elsewhere. The market will control how many customers will choose to go there Not too hard to understand the misleading OP that left that logic out of context.

RE: Con goes full retard.
What's with GOP politicians taking on faux libertarian viewpoints? Evidently, there must be some internal polling telling them that people want more personal freedom. Again, **** like this should always go back to the litmus test about inalienable rights. On the surface, it appears that an employee's rights are violated by forcing them to wash their hands after using the restroom. However, it violates the rights of the consumers going to the restaurant to not want to ingest germs - especially potentially harmful ones like typhoid...

Of course, someone can retort with "the consumer can choose not to go to that establishment if he/she doesn't want to risk ingesting germs from employees who don't wash their hands" DUH! That's why the OWNERS of these establishments would make the policy mandatory! In reality, the freedom of the employee is based on whether he/she wants that job or not. If a person does not want to wash his/her hands after using the restaurant, then find another job. You work for the proprietor of the restaurant.

The illogical thing is that you create another regulation in order for employees to have the freedom not to wash their hands. Dumb is dumb.

Agreed.. I see so many people on this board claiming to be Libertarian then blow up with a politician gives a "free choice" statement, especially lately.

"Hey, you're allowed to choose, but only if the govt tells you you're allowed to choose." Is that the new Libertarian philosophy lately, or is there something going over my head?

Right, I think others in this post are missing the point.

Even with context, it was an incredibly stupid thing to say and you have to know that people are going to use **** like that against you.

......and as someone else said, any restaurant can "require" their employees to wash their hands post dump, even put signs up in the restroom listing the requirement. With that said, unless they are going to do inspections after each use like parents do with little kids post bath, any employee can flout the requirement and give the folks a burger with a little "extra sauce" on it.

Why a politician would even get into this conversation is beyond me. When asked, they should just say "Of course they should have to wash their hands, just like I do after going - particularly when I know I'm opening up the fridge and make a sandwich."

I never wash my hands. Then again, I don't work at a restaurant.

I've seen resturant employees coming into the restrooms changing out trash cans and wiping down sinks and mopping floors and leaving without washing their hands many times. Seems there could be a lot of bacteria transported that way too.

There was a mom & pop restaurant in our first due area that required the employees to wash their hands in a sink set up in the kitchen after any kind of break. Had a huge sign posted on the door leading out of the kitchen. We asked about it when we did a pre-plan and courtesy inspection and saw the sign. (It was kind of hard to miss as it was literally 2'X2' and written in one inch red lettering) The owner said he installed it after getting fined during an inspection and the crew got caught not washing their hands despite all the required training and signage in the kitchen and restrooms. He said anytime anyone left the kitchen they had to immediately wash their hands in that sink or else he would fire them. He said he wasn't going to lose money in the future due to someone else's laziness.

As an aside that was the absolute cleanest kitchen in any restaurant I have ever seen.

No. Those are public places with public ratings. Are you suggesting that a gov't worker camp out in bathrooms to determine if people are washing their hands or not?
