RE: If BP were our coach in this game
Personally I hope Pearl is our coach for the CBU game next season. I think we can get by them with his system.

Doubt if UK could beat these guys, but continue on with your fantasy.
Just as I'm sure you'll continue your fantasy of Pastner being a good coach and knows what the hell he's doing. If he's still here next year, we'll be able to move our games to the Elma Roane fieldhouse. Fans losing interest. Dwindling attendance with each home game. Not just about this year.

We were blown out by all of the top 25 teams we’ve played: Wichita St, Baylor, Gonzaga, plus losses to 5 NR teams…Stephen F. Austin, Oklahoma St, Tulane, SMU, and Tulsa. (also DII CBU, cough, cough), and the season is far from over.
You can sugarcoat it any kind of way you wish but no way this collection of players should be losing the way they are.

RE: If BP were our coach in this game
Folks pining for Pearl should consider the barriers to his hire. You will need to pay for the buyout of the ethically challenged coach ($5M before 4/15/16), fund Pastner's huge buyout (around $10M I think), and pay Pearl more than his $2M plus he earns at Auburn. It will be an expensive item for your budget, so plan accordingly.

Furthermore, the performance of Auburn this season proves that Pearl is not a miracle worker. You should prepare for a possible lean year(s) at Memphis than you have experienced with Pastner.

RE: If BP were our coach in this game
When will this idiocy end. Except for a short period in the first half we played the #3 team dead even on their home court. We beat them on the boards. They are just that good. Four of their starters shoot over 48% from the field. They are the best shooting team in the nation and they still hit some shots they would not normally hit to stay off our rally. Some of those were long NBA 3s.

There is no denying the financial issues surrounding any removal of Pastner will be a major consideration. Plus, it isn't just the hiring of Pearl (or any other coach) that commands extra $$$$$; it's ANY new coach. Obviously, Pastner will have to be paid off the entire balance of his contract...PLUS...the new coach must be paid basically whatever he commands.
I also remind everyone to not forget about football. Fuente made his deal but there are still improvements to the FB program that require funds as well. None of this occur in a vacuum, contrary to some opinions on this board.
HOWEVER....those cost outlays will necessarily be compared to the potential loss of revenue from fans that just refuse to re-order season tickets, especially in the high dollar lower bowl seats. That also impacts the TSF donations.
Anyone - on either side of this argument - that thinks this is a simple decision and is based solely on ONE CRITERIA is flat out wrong.

The initial Vegas spread was 17.5 pts and we lost by 18.
I saw no Tiger fan seriously predict we would defeat Gonzaga but most thought we would beat the spread. Of the 3 ranked teams we have played we lost by 15, 24, and now 18pts.
Or not even close.

I saw us giving up layups and wide open 3s. And the game was never in doubt. 7-2 right from the jump. Someone needs to stop drinking the sugar laced kool aid

Spot on. Dead aim. Financially, Pastner gets another year, Lawson's atop the bleeding (ticket sales wise) and you get the money right.

RE: If BP were our coach in this game
For those who have a hard on for hiring Pearl, consider this. Money, notwithstanding, but is his hire more important the perception that we just hired a guy just off probation and unable to recruit off campus until this past September? Is that more important the how it might be perceived by schools in the Big 12 at a time when it is critical how we are viewed by some schools? There are just some things more important than the self gratification that some view as the hoops program. There are other programs that matter, too.

The Big XII could care less about that. It's all about money to them. If they are smart enough to do the research they aren't going to care about a barbecue. If anything they would be more worried about him being a whistle blower on Illinois back in the day.

that's why those behind the scenes are hoping the waiver is denied before having to make a basketball hire, don't you think?
