Current D1 coaches

Let me start this post by saying that I will support the current coach until he is no longer our coach. But in light of last night’s post game comments…well, let’s just say I am more willing to discuss this than I have been in the past.

So with that said...here are a few names that were of interest to me as long as we are just talking. They are in no particular order.

1. Bruce Pearl. He has the charisma no doubt. He has the fire I like to see in a coach. However, he has a troubled past with the NCAA. Memphis has been hit twice...just can't take it again. I know he is a favorite, but I take a pass.

2. Bobby Hurley. Again, I admire his fire. But the rest of it is personal. I am a NC native and in NC you are raised to typically be a UNC or Duke fan. So....I hate him. I guess you can figure out my raising. Sorry tigerscane.

3. Archie Miller. Seems like he is building something special at Dayton and has a big upside. Would not mind this at all.

4. Dan Majerle. He is new to the coaching thing for the most part. But he was a solid NBA player. Not sure if he can recruit? So, you would have to bring in nice assistant coaches around him. He is my out of left field pick. Why not?

5. Steve Wojciechowski. See Bobby Hurley above...but I hate wojo less than Hurley.

6. Richard Pitino. Has had some success and like flounder...he is a legacy.

7. Bryce Drew. Probably would not leave his home. But it would be cool to see if he could bring some of that past lighting with him.

8. Shaka Smart. Hands down, this is the guy I would love to see here. I could see some classic match-ups between him and Kevin Ollie. I think he is the real deal.

9. Gregg Marshall. Another great choice. Don't know if we would be what he is looking for. But, instant credibility.

Well that is my ramblings for tonight. Have a good time picking it apart. Later Tiger Fans...

Thunder Dan was always a personal favorite while he was playing in the NBA.

I think if and when a change is made, those in charge reach for a high grade hire. If you don't get that you go to the plan 1B coaches. We shall see and it could be fun. Like a lot of us have said, this time around you're not replacing Cal and there aren't any sanctions pending behind hidden doors. That's a credit to Pastner, to be fair.

I think if and when a change is made, those in charge reach for a high grade hire. If you don't get that you go to the plan 1B coaches. We shall see and it could be fun. I think we could get a pretty solid coach & probably could have when JP was hired with an effective search process (hoping for much better next time) but .......the money jar is currently empty so we won't hire any coach good or bad for at least one more season. If we win 17 or less games, bow-out early in the NIT this year & next, then maybe we get a new coach. But JP WILL get another year (unless the players just lay down this year) & get a chance to coach the Lawsons with what he has coming back. And if performance is improved JP is probably around for several years.

No way Marshall is 9th on that list

3, 8 and 9 have proven they can do things with limited resources.

Doesn't really matter at this point. Pastner is still the coach..

It does matter. What if Pastner bolts at the end of the season like Cal? I think the powers that be know they must have a plan for a replacement ready at any given time. Or like my old sig said...
