That's because big-city (Little Rock) dwellers have soccer-moms. Soccer-moms have their husbands PWed, and do not allow their sons to play Fooseball, which is obviously from the devil.
Random post of the day. NW Arkansas probably has more soccer moms than LR.

Ya, there is a large concentration of wealth in the NWA metro area (although I am not sure there is an actual inverse relationship of number of soccer moms and number of division one football players in a given population). There are number of reason that athletics in this part of the state are pulling ahead of central Arkansas. A large part is simply an emphasis on athletics and putting money into the programs and facilities. Schools like Bentonville, Fayetteville, and Springdale Har-Ber have some impressive facilities.

That part of the state has a population of about 500,000 and has as many Fortune 500 companies as Memphis (3).

No, Big 12 Conference doesn't want to expand because of the $25M each schools receives annually. Adding two schools to the pool, reduces the payout substantially.

I've worked with several Texas grads (not a butt load), but the only area they exceeded in was arrogance.

That true but I also heard Texas doesn't want to vote us in because of academics. They are reaching for anything.

I wouldn't count this as fact at all. The conference would obviously go to the networks and try and would try to alter the deal for the same money. I would think that they would have a very good shot at getting it done, considering that a conference championship game adds a great deal of value to the package.
To put things into perspective; dividing the tv money 12 ways instead of 10 ways, reduces each share from $25 million to $20,833,000 per team. If a conference championship game is good for $20 million per season, the payout per team goes down marginally, to $22.5 million per team. Throw in the playoff money and it because profitable and a no brainer.
I think having a team in the playoff generates an extra $50 million, but don't quote me on it. If the Big XII had a championship game this year, they would have been guaranteed to have a team in the playoff.

What? Memphis is a great academic institution. We have programs better than Texas and they have programs better than ours.

I have been a professor at Columbia and Harvard and U of M has a great reputation in the East/Northeast.

I've heard that alot through the years...locally, Memphis has a poor reputation (maybe from the tired old phrase "tigger high" perputuated by jealous Ol' Piss fans) but nationally, the University is percieved very favorably. Hell, I came to Memphis State (out of state student in 1971) rather than attend the Art institute in Kansas City because of the highly regarded Graphics department. Little did I know, the Vietnam War would have me following the blue heard around campus for 4 years and then find my ass getting strapped in a jet rather than use my degree...I'm just sayin' I'm proud of my University!

The chart basically reflects where people live. More people...more recruits, for the most part.

I won't quote you but I will embolden you.
IN any case, we are talking big bucks when you make it to the playoffs. Too bad they didn't make it this year.

Ohio State beat #13 Wisconsin. FSU beat #11 Georgia Tech. If TCU and Baylor play each other, one of them is in for sure.

Every P5 league gets $50 million from the playoff every year, regardless if they have a team in it or not. It's one of the reasons the Big 12 faces little financial pressure to expand. Leagues do get bonuses of $6 million per team in the playoff bowl and $4 million per team in the New Year's 6 bowls.

Pretty sure each team in the four team playoff (or conference) gets an additional 6 million. Also I've read that a Big 12 championship game would bring about 25 million from all sources to the conference.

They face no financial pressure at all. They face immense pressure to get teams in the playoff and to try to gain more of a competitive balance.
Your program would have the most to lose. If TAM can move ahead of a program like Texas; getting ahead of a program like yours would be inevitable. You would be living on borrowed time.
