Proud of Memphis and their kids.BYU have always been mouthy and cocky.Tonight they ran their mouths against the wrong team. Maybe the BYU punks have learned their lesson.

I cannot believe you would defend either team's behavior. Neither is anything to be proud of.

There's A LOT of fans who envy us having a great season for silly reasons, even in our own conference. The first punch was from a BYU player look farther and more BYU players started the damn thing all together, look at a replay. It doesn't surprise me that all these memphis haters are going to crown us thugs and say we started it all with little blame on BYU.

Like it or not but given the same situation theres not many teams that would let players punch and you not punch back. But ok ok we're thugs god what a horrible group of guys bla bla.

We won thats all that matters, and we ended it in a bang.

So you can see that Memphis started it. They Memphis guy was all in the face yelling at the BYU players. A shove to get him out of their face is not a fight starter. Shame the way the game ended. Was a fun game to watch. My wife earned her Master's degree at Memphis. One of her classmate's husband was GA for the football team, Jeff Brookshire. We went to a lot of games when we lived there. Hate to see y'all's bowl game marred by this outcome at the end of the game.

Here is a little more of the coverage. Memphis player using his helmet as a weapon and a BYU player throwing an elbow to the back of the head of a Memphis player. Punches being thrown from both side.

Personally, I can't tell who started it from the footage below. I'm sure the Memphis fans will say BYU started it and the BYU fans will say Memphis started it. Regardless of what the video shows, we still don't know what was said that may have been a contributing factor.

Memphis started throwing the punches first from what I saw - total lack of class and they won the game. Wonder what would have happened if they lost?

The BYU player pushed the Memphis player to the ground. That will start a fight just about every time. The Memphis player should not have been in the BYU player's face to begin with and should not have responded to being shoved down with a punch.

But to solely blame the fight on Memphis and refer to Memphis players as thugs shows an agenda that goes beyond the fight or the game.

Who started the fight is debatable. It was a chippy game. I can't think of a good reason for a Memphis player to get in the face of BYU players after it was over. Getting in someones face after a loss like that, is a good way to start a fight, and they did. Punches shouldn't have been thrown. Both teams are at fault. I can't understand how some Memphis fans or AAC fans would defend this type of behavior. It doesn't reflect well on your team or your conference. If there was a BYU fan on here defending it, I'd tell them the same thing.

I understand you point about thugs, and you will note that I did not call them thugs. Emotions do run high when playing a physical sport like football. But, there is no doubt that this gives Memphis a black eye on the football game and mars the end of very successful season for the Tigers. Your coach was very classy in the postgame interview though. I think he will take y'all far. Good luck to y'all in the future. I have always wanted to see a series of games between Memphis and LA Tech.

Memphis started it. The BYU player only took him to the ground after the Memphis player slapped him for no apparent reason as he walked by. Typical Memphis thug trash.

Watch the clip. The Memphis player did not start any physical contact. The BYU player pushed him and then the Memphis player hit the BYU player.

Other than clarifying the clip, I stand by what I said earlier.

"Thug trash"--that one's on you.

What epithet would you use to describe this behavior?

http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/imag...lqvt5b.gif

I should add, virtually everyone of BYU's old conference mates on the MW boards are saying the same things about BYU as folks here are saying about Memphis.

Who cares who started it. It is a he said he said. Moron thugs vs. Memphis thugs. The Memphis players are classless and the BYU players are stupid for the fight at the end of the game. I would have been more impressed if they showed that much fight during the game. I thought the game was pretty good and the ending was a classic.

Congrats Memphis.

It was classless all together and no one should be proud of any thing that happened post game. I honestly can't believe anybody would justify this. SMH

That gif pretty much encapsulates what BYU is. Add me as a former conference mate who is convinced that this was BYU's doing.

Even the announcers said that Memphis players went over to the BYU sideline after the game ended. We could say act like you've been there before but they haven't. Hell, Memphis hasn't even been to a bowl in six years.

BTW, that kid from BYU that was bloody (#12) you can see where he gets absolutely tattooed at the 3:36 mark of that CBS clip. He comes into the shot from the bottom left a couple of seconds before, that throws a punch (without his helmet on) and then somebody just smokes him on the left side of his face. Couldn't see who threw that punch but what a dumb-ass to come into a scrum without your helment on and then throw a punch.

It's a black eye for both programs. What bowl is gonna want you marring a goodgood game? There needs to be disciplinary issues addressed for both teams prior to next season.
