UC Women's BB loses to NKU/state of UC athletics
Yeah, I know it's not something very many follow, myself included. But it is a part of UC athletics and the women's basketball team is struggling again.
They are 1-8 this year.

Looks like the AD needs to find a replacement. Looking over their past results it looks like they are not making any progress. They need to find someone who can actually build them into a winning team.

Any ideas as to why they are consistently so bad? Lack of recruiting? Coaching? I don't expect them to knock off UConn any time soon but they should be smashing teams like NKU that have only been D1 for a year. That is pathetic.

I neglected to post the score - NKU 66 UC 52. The smashing was the other way around.

It's very weird that they can't at least be competitive considering the glut of talent Ohio has on the High School side of Women's Basketball. I mean, Toledo and Bowling Green primarily recruit the Northwest Ohio areas exclusively and end up making the NIT or NCAA's every single year. We shouldn't be this bad, there is absolutely no excuse.

UC must find a way to turn women's basketball around. Even if they're not any immediate threat to a legendary UConn program, they certainly should at least be no worse than middle of the pack in the AAC with trips to the post season at times.
Part of Louisville's appeal in conference realignment was their breadth of success. They've done a fine job with women's basketball, baseball and other Olympic sports.

We are really far behind in all sports not named Football and Men's Basketball. Strides were made by getting scholarships back, and getting a new baseball coach. The Athletic department needs to focus on getting our non revenue sports going in the right direction.

It's amazing to think how far we've fallen in some sports too. I mean, what was it, 5 years ago that we had a tournament team in Men's Soccer and a baseball team challenging for a spot in the Regionals and a Big East championship and we had a National Champion Swimmer in Josh Schneider? Crazy how getting complacent with coaches does that...I'm glad they moved on an up and comer for baseball, but Coach Dayes needs to get a fire lit under him, or a pink slip, here real soon.

Don't forget volleyball as well. Used to be a top notch program with games that were fun to attend (at least when I was still at UC). Now... not so much.

If I am not mistaken, women's volleyball never took a scholarship reduction like the other olympic sports did. Granted, Coach Elliott likely does not have a lot of money to fly around recruiting players but as someone else noted, we should be able ot get some decent talent within a 200 radius of campus. There is a lot of good talent in Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo and Indianapolis alone to field a squad for women's basketball. Yes UC is not a traditional powerhouse in women's basketball but our university, city and campus alone are good reasons to get some decent talent on campus.

Well...that was the coach's fault if we're honest. If he could've kept it in his pants, we'd still be battling for conference titles, but I still see your point. Odd as it is to say, Cincinnati is the second best volleyball recruiting area per capita in the US. If we had a men's volleyball team, we'd be competing for national titles in 10 years, with Moeller, Elder, and St. X in our backyard, all of whom have teams annually ranked in the Top 15 HS Me's teams nationally, and recruited at even a marginal pace, we'd be excellent in no time.

Time for Elliot to go. Record is now 63-98 and has had no winning seasons in 5 prior years. Microphone Thomas fired Pertile and hired J Kelly Hall who was a disaster and then we got Elliot who is a disaster.
No one watches this crap but if you must, because of Title IX, have it at least be respectable.
Pertile had by far the best success including trips to the NCAA and WNIT.
Our AD needs to call her in and send her packing now.

When Laurie Pertile was popped, I asked the question on the boards, "Why?" No one had any sort of decent answer. To this day, I don't know wh she and UC parted ways.

I feel it's time for UC to part w ays with Janelle. She just doesn't seem to recruit or manage a game like her former coach does for UCONN. I KNOW we can't probably ever compare UC to UConn but has UC ever appeared to improve under her coaching? Laurie Pirtle had made some rather poor decisions at times but she appeared to have been a much better coach than Janelle. Janelle doesn't appear to even recruit locally that much. Losing to NKU again should catch the attention of the ADMINISTRATION. If they don't really care to stay down in lower levels of the conference, then they should just keep her around. I bet a lot better young coaching minds are out there somewhere that would gladly accept the job and at a lot less money than what she's making at this time.

Laurie was a pretty good coach but the last ncaa team that she had, I remember her playing only 6 or so players a game. I never felt she tried resting players as much as she should have and didn't develop a bench that she could depend on. It showed up big time in the NCAA tournament on that last team she had in it.
