RE: Next U-M Coach
Wisconsin's new coaches first game(if he is not here for the bowl) will be against Alabama in Dallas. Barry Alvarez is making sure no one will ever be considered a better coach then him at Wisconsin.

Never thought that Oregon State is a better job than Wisconsin. Been there, kind of isolated.

And even if they DO get hired before the bowl game, they start with Auburn.
Youch.

You could have Wisconsin getting blown out in 3 straight games.

RE: Next U-M Coach
Geography and ties are more important in coaching hires than some people know, including some coaches.
Andersen was a Spread coach from the West. Also changed Badger defense from 4-3 to 3-4. Always thought it was an awkward fit at Wisky.

I always thought Andersen was kind of a strange hire for them in the first place.
Will be interesting to see who replaces him.

RE: Next U-M Coach
There is an article from last year that Alvarez says the transition to Anderson was very smooth. I don't think he asked Anderson if he their was smooth. It was a huge jump in pay for Anderson to goto Wisconsin. As major mentioned Anderson is a spread coach trying to coach power football and I can tell you from experience that it is not fun to run someone else's system even if u are winning. Anderson will have far less pressure, be closer to home and Oregon state just announced a 42 million dollar upgrade of their football facilities. You can be competitive at OSU like Riley was and not get fired when you have a down year. Dude got paid now he wants to do his own thing.

Pelini must be just a complete azz hole. Still blows my mind that Pelini was fired and had won 9, or 10 game seasons. His replacement barley .500 over a decade at OSU. Maybe he is a nicer guy? Welcome to the BIG Ten Riley...
There is something wrong with Alvarez...he must micro manage that football program to death. If that is the case...why not just appoint yourself coach. Probably should have never left his former job.
Just likes coaching in bowl games...that's what it is...genius!
How would we do if KB coached for Fleck? (laughing hard right now!) The visual of the Fur on the sidelines did it for me!

As has been posted more than once, Pelini IS a major azz hole.
He has had public blowups with his QB, fans, referees, press.
Riley is considered one of the nicest guys in all of sports.
Also - look at history of Oregon State football. They're the Kent State of the Pac-12. To have his record there, especially with rise of Phil Knight U. down the road, is a minor coaching miracle.

Oh, I agree/believe you 100% Kimbo...on paper it seems crazy though. Did not know that about Riley being a good guy. Nice to hear!

Alvarez is already getting heat from Badger fans.
He hires fired Nebby coach who has been scorched by Badgers recently (59-24, 70-31, 48-17 while Bo was head Husker) - his success as football coach not going to be enough to keep him off AD hot seat any more.

Barry has the board in his pocket. He is untouchable. Plus he is. Coaching again I am sure it is helping his search since he doesn't believe they n search firms. He says they call him not the other way around. Dude has a statue in the office of himself and someone is supposed to be the man? It is a daily reminder that you are always number 2 here

RE: Next U-M Coach
It was Dec 17, 2012 when WMU hired Fleck. And I remember at the time us getting very antsy that it was taking so long, with some subsequently interpreting the length of time to mean our HC opening was not "attractive" to coaches out there.
So it's interesting that we're nearly here at the same December date and the UM spot - who many would say is among the most coveted jobs in collegiate sports - is still not filled.

A risky "shot" to take, and it was. Oh boy Bronco Stampede was not happy, with all the Cubit-connection folk saying "I told you so", which had a merit of validity to that of course, because we decided to take a chance. BUT, it seems to have worked out -- Fleck's intensity will always make him improve. His quirks & umph, although to traditionalists screams "risky" (because it's different), it actually brings Stability over time (to adjust), for a no-experience choice.

I think they're going to hold off until the 49'ers last game OR until Harbaugh clearly says NO WAY to them Directly, like a sober girl at a frat party. Until then, they're going to wait it out, while taking a lot of time methodically finding a 2nd-choice.

The common thread is the NFL - we were probably waiting out P.J. with Tampa and Michigan is obviously waiting out Harbaugh with the 49ers.

I agree - and it's a smart move on their part IMO. Best-case scenario, they get their home run hire; worst-case scenario, as you said, they have plenty of time to do their research into alternative options.
The only real negative to waiting is that their 2015 recruiting class is falling apart, but from what I've read, their class wasn't going to be very big anyway. Whoever the coach ends up being will still have a little time to recoup some of the previous verbals prior to the February signing date.
