Big 12 to consider options
bowlsby on espn just said, they are going to push to get the CCG at 10..
but will consider adding institutions if they feel that is their only option and the CCG is that important

granted, he has always been known to shoot from the hip and not mince words...it is still rare he would mention expanding if they haven't already been thinking about it imo

RE: Big 12 to consider options
Of course the ccg is that important. Question is will the NCAA allow a ccg at 10? Answer is hopefully no.

he said they havent been thinking about expension but after todays result, they will look into it
he feels they were penelized for no having a CCG, so he wants the big 12 to have it at 10

but he also said that he will it down with his league members in the league meeting in january to see if adding institution is the route they want to take ..but stopped short and said adding teaams has to be more than a CCG ... you can tell he doesnt want to expand but will consider now if that is the key

the p5 already have the power to make up their own rules..and he said the ACC is fully behind it and has talked to other commishioners about it

I have no idea why any other conference would effective give them that 'Get Out of Jail Free' card now that they know how important it is.

good point he said that swofford and him agree that a 10 team championship should be enacted and they will use their influence to enact this, mark my words.

RE: Big 12 to consider options
I'm only a marginally educated fan here but why would the other conferences let them go for a CCG at 10 teams? It'll increase the B12 revenue and immediately put them back into the playoff picture, at the expense of one of the other P5. They all have an advantage over the B12 that I think they'd want to keep.

Delaney, Slive and Scott would probably want a pound of flesh in return...and really would Swofford continue to support this...

This will end up being 3 against 2. No way the Pac 12, SEC, and BIG 10 would go for this. Swofford only went along because Bowlsby helped with the GOR.

Sounds like it is likely deregulation will pass. Remember, leagues want more autonomy to determine their champions, including getting rid of divisions.

^^^This.

Whatever they may say publicly, they won't give up a perceived advantage when there's no benefit to themselves. If the outcome is the Big 12 having to weaken itself a bit financially and competitively by adding two G5 schools, well so be it.

The ACC may be the exception since it wants the rule change for its own reasons. But the SEC, Pac-12 and B1G are more likely to opt for the status quo under the guise of maintaining an "even playing field."

Leagues want more autonomy, but they also want an even playing field.

RE: Big 12 to consider options
I still sit back and think about how close the old Big East was to landing ISU, Kansas, KSU, Baylor and we had TCU. That would have been a solid conference.
I wouldnt even have cared if the Catholic 7 had left. that would have been a good 14 team football and basketball conference.

Is there any evidence the SEC, Pac-12 or B1G want to get rid of their divisions?

Why would they care if the Big 12 has a championship game with 10? If the a league can have a championship game with 12 why would other leagues be against a league having one with 10?

There is lots of evidence they want more autonomy and less NCAA control. This fits right into that philosophy.

The other commissioners are not going to give B12 a free pass into the playoff at their own expense. Deregulation won't happen.

Because the other conferences expanded because the NCAA mandated 12 to have a conference game. If that mandate didn't exist we're looking at a totally different landscape. You can't have one out of five avoid having 12.
