Gut-wrenching loss, but I am proud of how we played. We overcame a lot in that game being on the road, 2 TD underdogs, ineligible players, poor punting, and still almost pulled it out. Maybe next year....

I enjoyed playing Marshall too because they are so good. I hope they can stay this good... will be fun.

Everyone except for the yahoos across the street from the visitors tunnel (they just had bad timing, I think) were everything I love about our own fans. The next time we travel to Huntington.... I'm coming back.

Again, I don't fault either QB for bad play in that weather, it was MUCH worse in person. It was just hideous to throw a football in. We all saw how good Sokol was last week in decent weather, the kid's a real player. And some of us think the same of Cato when he's not had to play in such crappy weather. A real shame imho that we'll never know which team truly was the best w/ the ineligible players from LaTech/injuries from MU/absolutely horrid playing conditions that hurt both teams. Both teams just played so hard it was a shame either had to lose this one. Great championship game, even if the roles had been reversed, 2 deserving teams that played their hearts out.

Sokol was REALLY bothered by the cold. I was five feet from him while he was on the phone after every drive. He was shivering at times. He was also very frustrated. At one point he started yelling to whomever he was talking with on the phone (I assume the OC). Nonetheless between the weather, the frustration and the fans who singled him out for the entire game, I think he was off his game.

Again, thanks. Should we meet in Ruston, we'll need at least a 3 PM kickoff, which will allow you Herd fans lots of time to experience and hopefully enjoy our full gameday experience. Like you, we are known for our hospitality and respect for visiting fans...and our Louisiana-Texas "fusion" food ain't bad either.

Thanks for the insight. I thought it was strange that we were running the ball so much in the 2nd half.... almost stubbornly abandoning the passing game. I thought the coaches were nuts, but this could explain it.

It was bitterly cold. I was freezing in the stands with multiple layers and a rain suit. It would have been brutal to play in, and with the constant spitting rain and wet field, the ball was probably very hard to handle. I can't tell if was the cold or moisture that bothered Sokol the most. His timing was off, some throws were off, but the receivers also had some drops (Turner's would-be TD and Lee's would-have-been first down come to mind).

Thought our OLine played decent given the loss of the two starters and LB play was pretty good, though a bit of a drop off from Pinson and Johnson. Brice got turned around on a couple of long balls, and Liggins really needed to be subbed before the go ahead TD for Marshall. Our special teams were awful.

Marshall won because they did what champions do - find a way to win under unforgiving circumstances. Their special teams made the difference in the game.

I met a lot of La Tech fans yesterday before and after the game. You may have been one of them Papa_Dawg...LOL. Glad all of you made the trip. Hopefully the weather conditions will be better next time!
