Mid-Major Madness guys speculate where we go if C-USA says goodbye. The Southern Conference is currently leading the poll. 03-banghead

RE: Realignment: Where Will UAB End Up
Disagree with this assessment, if not CUSA then I would first pursue A10, MVC, and CAA in that order. If they all say no, then I would consider OVC. Hopefully we don't have to go any further below that because the options don't become very good after even the CAA as far as I'm concerned.

RE: Realignment: Where Will UAB End Up
I have no "inside" sources on this issue. But I think that UAB's chances of remaining in C-USA are much higher than commonly realized. I think the idea of inviting UMass to be #14 in football and keeping UAB as #14 in everything else makes -- or will make, if it's explained properly -- a lot of sense to the decision-makers. UMass ain't Harvard, but it's a highly regarded university and I think the presidents of C-USA members would approve of the association.

Such an arrangement would also allow UAB to rejoin for football when it's ready/willing/able to do so.

UMASS makes zero sense if C-USA is looking for a western division team.

RE: Realignment: Where Will UAB End Up
It could work, if the people involved want it to work.

There are (of course) other plausible paths that C-USA might take. I'm not saying by any means that the UMass-scenario definitely WILL happen. I just think it is a realistic option that will be looked at closely.

If we don't get in the A10 or stay in the CUSA basketball is irrelevant.

Where Will UAB End Up? Lord knows.

But Ray Watts is pretty sure it will be C-USA.

If you guys are booted, I pretty much view CUSA basketball as irrelevant.

RE: Realignment: Where Will UAB End Up
A 10 or MVC. Agree if we drop lower than the CAA then that's really going to suck. But we're just the first domino in this latest wave or realignment. The article I provided a link to below from the same website list all kinds of crazy possibilities. Also read that Memphis and Cinci may leave the AAC for the Big 12 so who the hell knows what might happen.

Bad point is, this should not be a discussion because it should have been lined up before football was dropped. This is like putting in the shotgun shell after you have the duck in your sites.

Exactly. I can't believe there's members of the sports media who agree with this decision when it's obvious it wasn't thought through. If they had already secured a commitment from CUSA or another conference then perhaps this wouldn't totally reek of horse ****.

I agree that once CUSA kicks us out, that we'll end up being indep w/ no league wanting us & the expense/revenue of being in no conference means Watts will use the same fiscal excuse to end all athletics that he cares so greatly about

The bigger question is why would a conference deal with UAB with its shady and incompetent leadership?
