Gov. Bentley to "look into" UAB situation
Quote:"We have a very good coach this year," Bentley said. "He's done a fantastic job. The team has improved."

"I'm very optimistic, actually, about the team this year compared to what I've seen in the past."

Bentley is a liar. He is talking out of both sides of his mouth on this issue. Look at how he handled the teachers' raises. I will wait and see what he does but I won't hold my breath.

Might well be, but I'm encouraged by his comments. He seems more complimentary about our football program than our own president...

I don't expect much, so I'm just glad he said "we have a very good coach" instead of "they have a very good coach"

Gov. Bentley to "look into" UAB situation
""But that is a decision that the Board of Trustees makes, and I am the chairman of the Board of Trustees and I always want people to remember that," the governor said." I thought this was interesting.

This too:

Quote:"Hopefully it's going to survive, and I'm going to find out some more information about the situation over the next day or two," Bentley said.

Him saying he hopes we survive may be a significant development.

I'm shocked. This guy changes with the wind more than a flag.

Well, I think that might be a SACS violation, but its not like that's the first time this has happened.

I have to admit. I'm shocked. "We..." "Hopefully it's going to survive..." Didn't see that coming.

But I know better than to hold my breath with him.

I'm still trying to parse this statement, however:

"But that is a decision that the Board of Trustees makes, and I am the chairman of the Board of Trustees and I always want people to remember that," the governor said.

Not sure what message he's trying to send: that (a) he's chairman and is ultimately the one who wields the most power or that (b) he's chairman and is actually a non-voting member with little influence.

Hmm, don't know how much weight that carries but that is an interesting development. Encouraging that he referred to the football team as "we."

He may have little influence, the real "power" is with the president pro-tem, but he does have a vote (as does Tommy Bice, State Superintendent of Education). While they hardly ever show up and vote, they could if they wanted to.

He's a politician, guys. I wouldn't put much stock into anything positive he has to say right now.

True, but as a politician he may be pretty adept at understanding which direction the wind is blowing. It's not much, but I'll cling to any hope right now.

Take what we can get. He could easily have just said it's none of his concern.

This probably means that he's hearing from our calls to him and other lawmakers in Montgomery. Don't let up. Keep hitting them with the facts.

This is VERY significant. True, he is a politician but he could have very easily copped out of making a statement. This is a 180 degree turn around from his previous statements (on & off the record). For him to show ANY support at this late hour shows that there is change afoot.
