MyBB Memphis 1st in NCAA in Blocks
Yes it's an incredibly small sample size. No I do not expect us lead the country in blocks at the end of the season. Still though, with the rough start we've had its cool to see us leading with 10 blocks per game. Look quick before Kentucky plays tonight and probably takes the lead.

Doesn't Austin have 6 a game?

Averaging 4.5. Think it was 6 vs Wichita.

I hate to frickin type this, but I believe we all know it. KY is so loaded, there's not a college team even close to their level this year. No one.
We're all playing for second place.

Get a lot of block because the guards poor perimeter defense allows penetration to the rim, Fortunately there are guys there to get the block.

Kentucky will lead the nation in blocks this year when the dust settles, I bet.

Still, Austin has been awesome on the defensive end so far.

So those Kentucky guards had poor perimeter defense and Anthony Davis had to save them?

Fair point, but when you have an person you know (like Davis or even DJ) you can "funnel" (not olé) players to that spot.

Also, if you watched Davis or DJ, you you know those were rarely contested blocks--meaning a players was coming at those guys and was blocked. DJ and Davis did most of their work off the weakside.

And if you watched Memphis, you would have seen the Tigers' guards getting blown by on several occasions by the WSU guards. I hope we aren't really gonna argue about that.

But like Canes noted, Memphis' sample size is extremely low.

We're all playing for second place.

Have to agree. Just have to hope that they have an off night in the NCAA tourney and their opponent shoots the lights out for an upset. Otherwise, they will be pretty unstoppable, with their talent.

Which team?

Six players could still have off nights and they would still have five legit elite players to rely upon.

That is my main contention with the "off night" stuff. Most teams can't sustain two or three players combining to play like crap, KY could truly sustain seven guys playing poorly, which would be an unlikely confluence of events.

We are now tied with Kentucky at 10.0 per game. I expect by the end of the season Kentucky will still be averaging 8-10. If we could average 6 for the season I'd be pretty happy.

Austin has been playing well, and this is a nice stat, but honestly its like comparing someone who plays 5 minutes in a game and goes 1/1 from the field for 100% to someone that plays 30 minutes and goes 7/8. In terms of #of games played we have the smallest sample size in the country so far
