I said In season. I have been through this before for 5 years. The rules have not changed. During the season we meet with our position coaches every morning and then before practice and spent the whole practice with them. Then film after dinner with him usually around.
Off season yes you spend more time with strength coach.
I know, I know nothing about this topic.

RE: We could lose every assistant
NCAA only allows the strength coach to work with players in the off season. Why is everything an argument? I spent 5 years in this program an nothing has changed as far as rules and contact with coaches. You workout with the strength coach in off season and he does the flex before practice along with in season weight training.
During camp the 20 hour rule doesn't apply so you spend a ton of ours in meetings. Unless you are on scout team you spend almost no time with GA's.
But again, what do I know.

Callahan's wife has a pretty good job at the University, so it wouldn't surprise me if he turned down offers to stick around.

I'm not arguing with anyone especially Kimbo. I know that players spend a ton of time with their position coach, BUT they want to win for each other, the program and the HC.

No question about that at all especially a guy like PJ who seems to have a great connection to his players. I loved Al but he was an administrator more than a coach he didn't have his hands on everything the way PJ does. I can see the players being very attached to PJ. They certainly can relate to him more than a 50 something coach.

Actually the rules with coaches and how many hours each can spend changed over the summer. And to your point, position coaches were recently allowed more time with players than in previous years. Not trying to argue, I just think based on what I know (first-hand), that players in our program spend a majority of their time with strength and conditioning coaches. I can't speak to others obviously.

RE: We could lose every assistant
So you think during the season the players spend more time with the strength coach? But you also said they have increased the hours that position coaches can spend with players? We maybe spent 5 hours a week during the season with the strength coaches. 20 plus hours with position coaches because that 20 hours didn't include travel, hotel meetings, breakfast, lunch, dinner, pregame, game, halftime, post game, etc...
I am not saying that in the off season they don't spend time way more time with the strength coaches. Even more time if you stay all summer which I did every year. I guess I must not understand what you are saying? Just during the game week we met at 7 am, then met before practice, had practice strength coach did flex and agility but our position coach was with us the whole time, practiced with our position coaches and then we would eat and then we would go back for an hour or two and watch film(assistant coaches were not really supposed to be with us then but they were always around). We lifted 3 days a week for a little over an hour during the season. So I might have been under the direction of the strength coach 5-6 hours a week and with our position coach 30? 4 hours a day plus travel and game day.

No disrespect, but when was this? If you don't want to say, that's okay I understand. But I am assuming this is pre-2000 (more than 15 years ago).

I played the 92-95 seasons with 4 letters and red shirted in 91. Have had several kids play college football, been around every staff other than. PJ. Goto coaching clinic, read everything thing out there about coaching not journalism. I am sure you learned more in your time with PJ.
Have fun. This is getting silly.

I totally respect your background and you're a great Bronco, I just think times have changed and nowadays in college football players spend a lot more time on strength and conditioning. I understand why you're getting mad about it, but then you're totally discounting my viewpoint at the same time. I've seen things up very close too. It's okay to disagree.

Just 1, the 2008 team that won 9 games and went to the Texas Bowl. What a team! It was great working for a determined and energetic staff!
