Next time, just hold your guns a bit longer and wait for people to actually say positive things about the team before jumping in and labeling them as the rose colored glasses crowd. It makes things a lot less confusing.

We should have looked like a disciplined, well oiled machine against a superior opponent like that in our season debut.

Its not like we had 10 guys playing their first D1 game together.

I think WSU played 8 guys who didnt log minutes last year

The "quality" recruits that Josh has brought in can barely dribble a ball at the D1 level.

This is going to be a defining year for Josh to show what kind of coaching job he is capable of. If he is successful in putting lipstick on this pig and winning a ribbon at the county fair, then there is hope for the future. I am not optimistic about his probability of success.

My bigger fear is that the current administration has chosen to make football the bell cow of the athletic program, and that a lower level of success in basketball will be acceptable in the future.

How do others out there think about this?

Fuente will be gone with any sustained success. Then you will have a FB program that is rebuilding yet again and a mediocre BB program. And we will not be in a power 5 conf. I am not a coach of anything so I hesitate to critique too much, but I am worried about the direction of BB.

World of difference though when you've got an all American backcourt with 4 key guys returning that just started a season 35-0.

RE: WSU columnist
The very fact that Memphis fans are once again arguing about Pastner's coaching ability is troubling no matter which side your on. The fact is in year six the program is not improving. I would argue it's getting worse. We still don't resemble a team that is structured and diciplined. Yes we have new players and before that Joe and Chris were just freshman and that one year Will Barton was selfish and so on. The names of the players change but the undiciplined basketball has remained the same. I guess we can wait and see if he hires an X and O coach again this off season and then next year argue that maybe the Lawson brothers are not as good as we thought or their dad being on the bench is the issue the team isn't running a diciplined offense or defense. Either way It's going to pretty much remain the same goong forward because the last five years and the beginning of this year continue to repeat.

Just a sloppy attempt at fitting your typical predictable narrative, without having anything remotely resembling a clue. How did the 8 newcomers for Wichita State do? Glad you asked.

69 minutes
11 points
11 rebounds
2 assists
6 turnovers
14 personal fouls

36.3% field goal percentage (4/11)
25.0% three point (1/4)
80.0% free throw (4/5)

34.5% of the team's minutes
15.4% of the team's points
15.3% of the team's assists
60.9% of the team's fouls
28.9% of the team's rebounds
46.2% of the team's turnovers

Your post; which I suppose was intended as a swipe at Pastner; instead does the exact opposite. Just in case you're not sure what you accomplished; you "just showed everyone" that it is very difficult to integrate new players at the D1 level. In other words, you just clowned your own post.

Okay, we have 10 players who had never played D-I ball before today. Fine. Who's job is it to make sure we recruit properly so that doesn't happen?

Shades of Derek Dooley. He forgot to recruit any offensive lineman for UT in 2012. Not his problem now, but the point remains.

The fact that we signed a bunch of JUCOs should have been telling. The talent is gone and Pastner will be truly exposed.

RE: WSU columnist
I've been a defender of Pastner for a few years now...but barring a major transition over the early part of this year, I think it's time for the Pastner experiment to end. He's not ready...end it...he'll go back to being an assistant at a top school and will get his chance again; hopefully with an understanding if what he needs to be a better coach when his name is called again.

We've been lacking discipline during the entirity of his tenure.

Marshall? We won't get him...but I think we're still enough of a brand that we can land a quality coach. I just hope we do as well in that search as we did in Fuente's.
