Apathy(unscientific poll)
I want to share a story that I think represents the apathy Memphians are developing for Tiger Basketball.

I am the Sales Manager for a local company. Marketing gave me approval to buy lower level season tickets to Grizz or Tigers games. We use these tickets to give to customers/prospects etc...

My inintial thought was to get Tiger tickets b/c I figured the demand for those games would be greater. So I ask my sales team to poll some of our loyal customers to see which games created more interest. I also asked my employees which tickets they prefered. We are now NBA season ticket holders, demand was 80/20 in favor of Grizz..

After reflecting on this, the results aren't that shocking. I think the fan base is growing tired of JP and his style(or lack thereof). Personally over the past 3 years, I have morphed into an Apathetic Tiger Fan. JP has polarized the fan base and he doesn't seem to possess the skills to get the fans or players motivated.

I hope he can get the team on the right track, however if history is any indication I am not very optimistic.

PS. I am a former longtime season ticket holder to Memphis Basketball and Alumni of the U of M. I gave up my personal tickets 2 years ago.

One team plays with heart grit and grind and the other plays with flash cards and no offensive scheme.

Apathy(unscientific poll)
The thing that really scares me is the next generation of memphis Bball recruits. Pastner was a benefactor of all the success cal had and the fact that the joe jacksons, and Chris crawfords of the world grew up watching awesome tiger teams. He's not gonna have that from the next few crops of kids. Mediocrity doesn't make kids go "ooh, it would be really cool to play for the Tigers, they're the team that gets blown out in the NCAA tournament every year.

I've been trying to figure out why I haven't been more upbeat about the Tigers since last season. I really haven't been following recruiting this year like I usually do. Don't really care if we land a Skal or whoever. I'm coming into this season kind of numb.

I didn't even know we had a game last night until yesterday morning. The days of marking my calendar and scheduling my life around Tiger basketball games isn't part of my normal routine right now. I don't know. Maybe I'll shake it off in the coming weeks.

Chi town, that is my point. I use to plan my evenings around Tiger Basketball, set my DVR, and be excited. Like you, I didn't even know they played last night until I heard it on Gary Parrish show coming home from work.

Unfortunately, Josh has lost the city. His style doesnt' work here, and his interviews or complete garbage.

I used to love listeneing to Calipari interviews and post game. Listening to JP makes me cringe and it doesn't matter if we win or lose. His comments are always the same lame BS.

I found out because gotigersgo sent me an email trying to get me to sign up for the game stream. I was like "oh ****....they play tonight?".

I'm pissed about last night and generally unhappy about the direction of the program too but come on guys. You forgot there was a game last night? At some point you just have to stop calling yourself a fan.

Been saying it for several years.

This is a Grizzlies town.

Kids today are Grizz fans, and most probably couldn't name three players on the Tigers team.

Here we go, start the you arent' a true fan garbage.

I am a fan and have been for 20 years. Spent thousands of dollars supporting this team. Unfortunately I am a fairly intelligent and intuitive person and can see what is happening to our program. Because of this, I protect my sanity(and wallet), by just not paying as much attention to it.

I think this is the point many are trying to make. Many of us are about ready to stop calling ourselves fans. The underachieving used to make me angry. Now my passion for Tiger Baketball (which started in 1980) seems to be dying a slow, apathetic death.
