You make a very valid point, but so does atl.
Honestly curious, did Charlotte have good attendance numbers before they got the CUSA call?

They didn't even have a team. This is only their second year.

Ga state?
Good point. Despite us all knowing it was untrue, Georgia State reported around 15,000 fans before moving up (it may have been just below). If it was just shy of 15,000 the NCAA may have let that go because it was close enough. Still, I don't expect Stony Brook to start making up numbers like Georgia State just to move up.

I think in that instance they just monitor the attendance during their two FCS years prior to moving up. The NCAA did just put a few schools (including UMASS) on notice recently for not meeting the 15,000 requirement but they won't really do anything about it.

All any of those teams have to do is find a donor to purchase the remaining seats that would get them up to 15k. NCAA says either buts in seats or tickets sold.

Think back 10 years ago (I was a freshman). If you had told me that ODU would have FBS football, VCU would be one of the top programs in the country, Liberty was on the verge of FBS, and people would be talking about Stony Brook athletics potentially surpassing JMU, I would have thought your crazy...
Lets go back another 10 years to 1994. JMU's football schedule consisted of Marshall, UConn, Troy, Middle Tennessee State, and Buffalo. For you older alumni, would you have believed half of JMU's schedule that year would eventually be FBS but not JMU?
In 2024, what are we going to look back to this time and see passing us?

I've bolded the only part I wouldn't have believed. I thought we were all headed that way. What the he!! happened???? People on here only mention, ODU, Charlotte, GA Southern, GA State and APPY, but those you mentioned are just as fresh in my memory of being 1-AA as most of you young folk think of these recent move-ups. In addition, we were affiliated with ECU. What makes it even worse, people like Appy and GA Southern cannot believe it either.

Some JMU people on this board embarrass our university with their constant butthurt over expansion.
Big XII commish speaks the truth in that there is not going to be any significant movement in the power 5 for at least the next decade. Yet, some jackholes on this board keep claiming they know something about movement "just a matter of time". This board is as bad as West Virginia and UConn in terms of being butthurt moron weenies. Hopefully - and I stress "hopefully" - there will be more JMU people with brains who call these butthurt morons out and their idiotic agendas. Agendas that do nothing in the end but make JMU look like a bunch of crybaby butthurt morons.

Just to point out, 2 of those schools, Marshall & Troy State, weren't on JMU's schedule (regular season) but were 1st round and qtrfinal playoff opponents.

Quote:There are several of us that are numerically challenged. I don’t know that anybody could’ve anticipated that the Big 12 would have 10 and the Big Ten would have 14. ... In our case, I don’t know that there are a lot of obvious candidates out there. We’re distributing about $25 million per school through our distributable revenue, so anybody that would be considered for expansion in our league would have to bring at least pro-rata value. ... But the opportunity to move from one high-visibility conference to another is pretty slim right now. I don’t see much movement in the near- to mid-term. As we get near the end of some of these TV contracts, which would be 10 or 12 years down the road, there may be some renewed conversations. The only movement that is possible right now is from some of the secondary-level conferences that might move people into one of the five high profiles.
It doesn't take "much" movement of "secondary-level conferences" "into one of the five high-profiles" to open our door.
significant movement? no, there won't be that. But it's not going to take "much" for us to find an opening. We just need to be 100% ready when that occurs.
when you read the quote accurately, you see there is still a sliver of hope for us.

I usually look at the "time stamp" when I see a rant like this. Must have been a very unhappy Happy Hour.
IMHO: Purplehazed just fell behind Wear Purple with the need of stepping away and taking a breath. This is just a message board for people to waste a little time. We aren't on here to make decisions, but rather voice our thoughts. To attack people for their opening up and expressing themselves on an open forum is not of sane mind. Their isn't one poster who does not want the very best for JMU.
