Woodson struggling in Orange
"Memphis transfer Dominic Woodson, listed by the Vols at an official weight of 280, is down “21, 22 pounds” according to Tyndall. But the big man — by far the Vols’ biggest — has bigger problems on the floor.
“He’s lost a bunch of weight, so I’m proud of what he’s done,” Tyndall said. “ ... But the biggest thing, maybe it’s even more mental than it is physical, he will not push himself through fatigue.”
...“He was pretty good in stretches and spurts in our scrimmage, did some nice things,” Tyndall said. “But as soon as he gets tired he just literally will not push himself to move. It’s a late-rotation bang three, missed block out, tip-in and he gives up 4, 5, 6 points before you can call timeout to get him out of the game.
“So these aren’t things we talk about endlessly to Dom. He understands it. He gets it. Now he’s got to get it to the floor.”
-----------------------------------------------------------
Seems Dom's struggles survived a simple jersey change. Sounds exactly like what would happen with him here. I hope he gets it together.

Too bad. He's one of the most offensively skilled big Memphis had in the past 20 years. His 6ppg 5 rpg average in HS was just a ruse.

I assumed that most of his issues were conditioning related. But you've got to be mentally tough to play defense deep into the shot clock; being in great shape most definitely helps, but when it comes down to it it's about focusing on your task until your team has possession back.
Maybe he just can't do that.

Most offensively skilled? He wasn't even the 2nd or 3rd most offensively skilled big man on the team last year.

Memphis transfer Dominic Woodson embraces weight-loss plan, fresh start at Tennessee
Q: Has your weight always been an issue?
A: I started gaining weight my senior year of high school. At Memphis, I didn’t drop as much as I did while I’ve been here. I’ve only been here what, five weeks now? I’ve already dropped more than I ever did in a whole year at Memphis. It’s going good for me right now.
Q: Has the weight loss helped your play?
A: I feel lighter on my feet since I’ve dropped 20 pounds. It’s getting better. My breathing and everything. My sleep. It feels better to be at a good weight, actually.
Q: Tennessee and Memphis don’t play every year like they used to. Would you like to see that rivalry renewed?
A: Yeah, I would like to play Memphis. I would. Hopefully. Hopefully.

Can't say I'm surprised.
Too bad. Dom has nice hands and a really sweet touch around the basket.
I've never seen an issue with his offensive skills at all. Its all about his conditioning and heart. He should be a double double machine at this level.
Of course, it October and he hasn't even played a single game yet.
Perhaps we are jumping the gun on acting like he already failed in orange.

I dont particularly care for his comments about Memphis.
Seems like he is implying that being at Memphis contributed to his issues, someone should remind him that this is the second school to run him off. I wonder what he thinks the problem at Texas was.

If he can't get motivated to play for a team like Memphis, how's he going to be motivated to play for UTK?

I mean, what's he supposed to say? Here, he was the 12th or 13th man. The staff was busy staying with Nichols and Shaq, our two contributors, to keep an eye on Dom every second. His conditioning was his responsibility, and he slacked off.
At UTK, he's the best post prospect they have, and the only player over 225 or so. They need him, so he gets daily attention I'm sure.

he's not lazy when it's over a woman.. uh, wait, that didn't quite come out right.
I think he'd rather fight to end the battle.. he's like butterbean, but just go 2 rounds

Seems The Donald is also using his comments to the press as way to motivate Woodson. Regarding Woodson's desire to play Memphis --- TN's AD knows what he needs to do to make that happen.
