ECU fans: Your biggest game of the modern BCS+ era
If UCF comes into this game unbeaten in conference play and (unlikely) ranked, with all that is on the line, will this be the biggest game in your recent history?

I'm not asking from an arrogant standpoint, I'm just curious to gauge your fanbase's excitement for this upcoming matchup.

Tell me your story!

We have always been on the other side, beating the highly ranked, big name team. This has been sometime for us to be ranked in consecutive weeks...so yes, it would probably mean if all keeps as is we would be probably borderline Top 10/12 at that point....and playing for that auto position.

If 10-1 East Carolina hosts 9-2 UCF two days before 12-0 Marshall battles a 7-5 C-USA west team in the C-USA Championship game with a trip to the Access Bowl on the line, then yes, I would consider it our biggest game in the BCS era... until the Access Bowl kicked off a few weeks later. 03-wink

Yes it could potentially be the biggest game in my lifetime in terms of what could be on the line, or if we screw up it could mean relatively little.

RE: ECU fans: Your biggest game of the modern BCS+ era
Its huge for ECU. They have a history of big wins, but not this big of a season. Yes they won CUSA but this is essentially a "BCS" bowl. Just like last year was UCFs biggest year, I think this could really be their biggest season ever... and honestly we need the it for the AAC.

Its WAY better for us if different teams win the conference AND then win the Access bowl afterward. It will show depth and parity, which could lead to a decent bump when it comes time for the contract look in.

I agree. This could be similar to to UCF's game last year against Louisville, except you guys benefit from it being at the end of the season and being fresh in everyone's mind.

RE: ECU fans: Your biggest game of the modern BCS+ era
Tough to say. I'm leaning no because in a era where ECU was clearly on the outside looking in, any opportunity to take out a BCS team has been huge. I'd say the WVU game in 08 would be bigger if only that it proved the last minute win the week before over VT wasn't a fluke. ECU needed validation in those years.
The UCF game this year has has potential to be huge with basically a BCS bowl on the line. IF UCF and ECU med with only 3 losses between them it will be right up there with the potential to be one of the most important wins, but i wouldn't consider it the biggest. Honestly it should be looked at as taking care of business, something ECU has had a little trouble with historically.

When did the BCS start?

Yeah maybe not the BS era but it's hard to top the 1991-1992 season. We won 11 games in a row including the Peach Bowl and finished in the top 10. Beating South Carolina, NC State, Va Tech, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, etc along the way.

If we somehow win out and win a Conference Title plus an Access Bowl game it would surpass that season.

We've had a lot of good wins in the BCS era but the stakes get higher at the end of the year if we are playing for the title/access bowl against UCF. Hopefully we will be but we gotta handle our business before and so does UCF.

I would think so. You don't think UCF would be ranked at 9-2? I guess it depends what else happened around the top 25 but I wouldn't be surprised to see them at 20-25 considering the noise they made last year.

The biggest game in the HISTORY of ECU was the loss at Marshall last year.

He was saying big seasons, 1991 qualifies as a big season or do you disagree with that?

Of course there is 1983, 1995, 1999 in addition to 08, 09.
