The reason it was lame because it wasn't about the tigers. It was in my opinion 80 percent of the crowd were not real memphis fans they were rap fans . No excitement and a minor dunk display (not contest) and a alumni/ player 3 point contest and the main event Rick Ross . Won't go back again if he is going to be there.
In past years it was a meet and greet for Tiger players. Dunk contests and three point shooting for the team and it was followed by a small scrimmage to get a look at the players. This year everything was a prelude to the concert and had little to do with a meet the players. To say disappointed is an understatement!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish they would play the scrimmage so you can see the players. Rick Ross was good. But most of the crowd was not wearing Tiger gear. The recruits liked it. Maybe we got new fans Tonight.
For those who question why I say "the talent is better", here is my rationale. You can have a 5 star player, who is not truly a 5 star talent. On the other hand, you can have a 2-3 star player that KNOWS how to play basketball. Now I may get bashed, but I am a TRUE BLUE Tiger fan first and foremost. I just so happen to be in the minority who thinks that Joe Jackson was not that good of a player. True he lead the team in scoring a couple of years, but IMO he was not impactful as some have been lead to believe. Yes he was from Memphis, and yes he chose Memphis when some thought we would be relegated to the hole when Cal left. I truly think Pastner had his hand tied with the Joe regime and that include Chris Crawford and Tarik Black. Now I'm not bashing Joe, Chris or Tarik because I truly wanted the Memphis talent to shine. I simply believe he (they) was/were not as good as the media and fans thought he (they) were. They were incredibly and undoubtly inconsistent throught their years here. Heck each year after the first handful of games, we heard rumblings that Joe may transfer. Every year. Now, multiple basketball publications has questioned whether our backcourt will be any good at all. Trust, Kedren will be and upgrade. Heck Pookie will be an upgrade. I won't say anymore until we see for ourselves. Media propaganda has lead many to think this team does not have talent. I seem otherwise and the season will show that much.

WTF did it have to do with Madness??? go back and read the thread. In brief summary, some were wondering why the crowd wasn't there and saying it was disappointing. I was simply providing my point of view as to why the crowd here was low if regards to the perception of the team. So whats your take?
I go to do my part filling the place up for recruits. It wasn't packed, but solid. I personally don't like Rick Ross, Whale and whoever else, but Madness isn't for me. It's for recruiting. Period. So anything I enjoy from it is gravy IMHO. It's almost a 'no win' situation otherwise trying to top things every year. Just go and have some fun, maybe get some recruits.

I think it's not about the fans anymore. It's about recruiting. Recruits like guys like Rick Ross . I get it I just think you can have a little of both. No scrimmage is a bad idea . An excited arena can excite recruits. Tonight the real tigers fans were there in small numbers and the rAp crowd ruled the day. In turn the arena atmosphere sucked.

If we were as good as fans as we say, then $5 would have been a drop in the hat. Look at kentucky. They charge way more than that and then sell for $150 a pop on second market. We always brag about being in top ten in attendance every year when we all know were really not. When they announce 16,500 at a game, there's really maybe 12,500 there. We don't travel big either.
Do you just love taking shots at attendance and spreading bad news about the football team?
What have I said that was wrong?
We're not a national fanbase, no. That doesn't diminish our fanbase here in the city. And no, we don't all know that they invent 4k people every game.

We're going to be better this year without the 4 kings.

I agree that the scrimmage has to be there. to eliminate it stops the true fans of the team to show up. Personally I didn't show to avoid the crowd and i figured there woud not be a scrimmage. Now I will be in Vegas for the tourney and have already purchased my tix, Section 106 in Orleans Arena. I agree that you should incorporate a little of both. The scrimmage was the main reason that I have attended nearly every Madness. As soon as it stopped, I stopped. Didn't go this year as i figured it would happen again.

IMO, I agree. Not to dawg them, but I think this team will have better chemistry.
