RE: Streamers / Football Event Staff / THANK YOU
Couple of notes here:

1) I brought in about 8 streamers to the game and I throw them on the extra point... I am never ready in time for a touchdown. We bring purple and bright yellow.

2) Was very happy to see Cheerleaders handing them out(for obvious reasons). But, after the first half I was out of streamers and naturally felt that the lack of streamers would have a direct causal link to a lack of any future touchdowns. The Cheerleaders showed up in the third with the streamers, and our offense powers were restored.

3) The streamers they handed out were sort of a gray/purple and dim gold. They do need to be brighter colors.

4) For God sake, I should not have to check to see if we ACTUALLY MADE the extra point before I throw the streamer. I mean, I am going to throw it anyway, but it makes you feel someone stupid to be throwing after a missed XP!

5) Keep on rolling with this JMU. Streamers are one of our best traditions.

Providing you have enough streamers from the get-go, should not be a lack of streamers later. If you're not re-rolling, you're not rootin'... or employ your kids while you watch the game.

Speaking of streamers, I don't think I've ever come closer to blacking out from anger than the first time I saw RU students throwing blue and red streamers at their home games. I am a pretty calm, peaceful person, but nothing brought out my ginger rage more than seeing that. If any of those kids had been within punching distance, I would probably still be in jail.

Its simple to have one ready to throw within seconds after a TD when most people throw them. Simply have one unwrapped (my current stash each have individual plastic wrap), ready, in your hand/pocket/beside you/at your feet, ready to go.

Again, throw after TD not PAT and you won't have that issue.

I heartily disagree on streamer re-roll. If you can get close enough to re-roll, your form is bad. A good streamer throw should fully extend the length of the roll and allow the tail to catch the breeze and get a sizeable drift. I am on the top row under the boxes and almost always land in the club seat lower level. I use a large streamer roll which allows for good carry and my QSA(qualified streamer assistant) manages the release at the end. Bdk, you are probably right that I should prepare better for scoring plays, but I am always just so damned happy that it happened that I suffer from some lag there.

Exception noted. Guess I'm used to my seats...lower level. No shortage there as I'm referring to re-rolling those that come from above me, ie: perhaps from one of your own magnificent flyers.

i had the opposite reaction.

as i recall, not much that month made me laugh as hard as i did when i saw that. how pathetic of them to blatantly rip off a rivals tradition. i thought it was comical.

You make it so real. No wonder I hate the off-season. My daughter is just learning the technique. She threw one this week and it didn't do so well. Then, she wanted me to hold her arm and toss the next one with her, and we all know that just doesn't work. Though a bit late, she handed it over, where it went for a beautiful sail, over and down to the next level.

Luckily you had plenty of chances this past weekend to show her.

There's a story behind this picture. JMU does not send streamers to road games. They feel it's not appropriate to do something that would cause additional expense to our opponent to clean up.

Well - except this time. It was Jeff Hill's first year as head of the Duke Club. He thought it was a good idea and did not first check with JB and GP. So I brought them, and he brought them and needless to say they was a plethora of streamers.

COGS

So many streamer stories - so little time...

My 12 year old read this thread and asked me to post that he got the first field streamer of his career from the club section on Saturday. When I chastised him and told him they could throw him out, he stated incredulously - "but that is my first ever field streamer!!!" He had a point.

Streamers aren't well received at some of our opponent's stadiums. Ask Mr. Duchess how the Towson jail cell was!

Funny thing at Richmind. They told us and their fans that streamers were a fire hazard at City stadium and then handed them out to their own fans at the bread box. We still have to sneak them into UR yet they provide them to ur fans.

I seem to recall someone looking suspiciously like Dukester running around the UR Stadium track one year trying to collect the thrown streamers before they blew onto the field. Two year later (I think) at the Scotty game, Richmond City policemen stationed at the top of the visiting bleachers confiscated streamers from my kids as they entered.
