Tulsa has the team but game and game out in the AAC is tough.

IMO, Temple will be the surprise. I liked their team last year a lot. They never quit.

Crazy that Tulsa is that low, but kind of hard to argue with based on who is ahead of them.

We've received a ton of grief for hiring recruits coaches and even dads, but we (thus far) always get the recruit. :)

It's how the game is played, my only problem was when Memphis people tried to claim it was based on coaching quality and not far more about recruiting.

Ya we stink. Though we do have some nice guard play could surprise some people.

I am unfamiliar with any Tiger fan stating that Lawson was hired solely on coaching ability. OTOH, he is not a truck driver either. He had success at the high school and AAU levels.

For one it's much different situations. We return our starting point guard, who is one of our better players and a 6-5, 205lb upperclassmen. You guys lost your center to Ohio State and need your little 6-8, 220lb freshman to man that spot.

15ppg, 11rpg his senior in year high school, obviously he's going to come in and dominate the AAC 07-coffee3

Quote:ESPN final recruiting grades...

East Carolina Pirates B-

Point guard Lance Tejada will be one of the surprise freshmen in the American. He's competitive and will make plays for his teammates by driving and dishing. Look for Tejada to create run-outs for transition baskets. Grant Bryant and Kanu Aja will provide good overall depth for the Pirates.

Temple Owls B-

One prospect head coach Fran Dunphy signed is power forward Obi Enechionyia. A combination of versatility and athletic ability makes him hard to defend. He has a huge upside, and Temple now has a frontcourt player who is ready to play an integral role.

I've been here 10 years, and through 300+ RPI basketballs seasons and losing football seasons as well. Feel free to look at my post history those years. I'm not going anywhere.

I didn't say they were all NIT's, however I do expect one or two from that group to end up there and a couple to end up being lower NCAA at large NCAA seeds if they get in.

Have you actually looked at the turnover between UConn, Memphis, and Cincy this year? This league looks down this year, and pretty much overall. SMU is really the only team with little turnover, Tulsa has most of their players back but a new coach and beyond that other than ECU and Tulane most of the other teams are in major transition too. None of that helps the teams at the top either.

I understand UConn and Memphis add a lot of talent at the top. I know about Purvis, Hamilton, etc but you never know how that's going to mesh and you and Memphis were already 7 or 8 seeds last year with with senior laden teams that had been together for years, with several players in the NBA right now.

Is it really that unthinkable that you could be a 9-12 type seed / or some one in that group doesn't end up being a top seed in the NIT? I mean come on UConn would have been a bubble a couple years ago if you were eligible and the year before were a 9 seed even with Nappier and Drummond on one of those teams and Memphis has had some seasons like that under Pastner where they would have been on the bubble if not for the CUSA tourny.

I guess we'll revisit this thread down the road, where someone will be eating crow.

03-yawn No need to. This is basketball. Crazy $hit like the 7 seed running to the championship obviously happen in this sport, and you should know. I'm just telling what it looks like on paper in October and you are kidding yourself if you think UConn is this slam dunk favorite to repeat/ or a sure bet contender/ or even a no doubt top 4 seed etc at this point.

Maybe if everything comes together but it could just as easily go the other way and I'd think that's the more likely at this point with so many new pieces. Look at SMU one of their McDonalds AA's did nothing as a freshman if you are counting on Hamilton to be a superstar, and I've seen Purvis in college, hopefully he's got better. Again just look at the previous two years. You had Drummond and Nappier one year and were a 9 seed and would have been bubble the year after if you were eligible. You don't look as sure a bet as SMU to me at this point to be in the top 25, no one does and a 10 type seed could be entirely possible for your team and that's nothing to frown at in a rebuilding year.
